It just seems like exactly what a scammer would ask for. I'll suggest she covers up the long number and the number on the signature strip. The account no. and sort code ought to be sufficient.
  • I received a letter on 10th February 2022 advising of a refund of £705 - This was for a former Morgan Stanley card that I was on a repayment plan for and closed in 2015.  I was a bit suspicious as like another member says there was a form to complete to send in bank details and a copy of bank statement to prove it was my account.  If it is a scam it is an inside job as the form has to be sent in a pre-paid envelope to the Customer Portfolio Team at Barclays head office at 1 Churchill Place, London, so think it must be ok and if others can confirm they have received the refund after sending in the requested bank details that is quite reassuring.

I went into a Barclays branch and they confirmed that all was above board. Waiting for the cheque to arrive......
  • If you don’t receive a letter how can you find out if your entitled to a refund?

  • I received 2 letters offering refunds - one for a Goldfish account I had and one for my Barclaycard that I still have.  I closed my Goldfish card over 10 years ago and the refund they are sending is £4438.02.  £1,955.54 of that is the compensatory interest.  For my Barclaycard, the refund is £6.02.

I do feel ashamed of myself that I was in such a mess back then leading to the refund being as high as it is, but I was lucky enough to be able to get myself out of that mess around 10 years ago.
  • As an update to my post above, I have received the refund into my bank account.

    The time line was :

The date on the refund letter was 27th Jan and the letter was received on 14th Feb.
I completed the form on the 14th Feb and the money was in my bank today (7th March)

The letter said that the form had to be completed within 30 days of the date on the letter, but from what I have read, around 18 - 20 days are already passed by the time that people are receiving the letters.

It said that payment would be received within 30 days of the form being filled in, and mine was received in 21 days.

  • I received a letter 16 days after the date on the letter filled it out on line over 40 days ago now not heard anything, I have tried to call but with waiting times about 90 mins it's hopeless. Personally if they have charged more than what they should have done it should by rights be automatically paid back.

That's what they're doing. But it won't negate the calculations, checks and manual processes that need to be done.
