Bulb - significantly increased monthly payments

Thank you @MWT for your advice, and kind offer. @ProDave - can't use the code regardless!
I have just called Octopus, and I also called OVO (my supplier at my old house) and neither are accepting any switches from any suppliers in administration at the moment, because they cant guarantee any credit balances and I got the distinct impression they are overwhelmed with switches from other failed energy companies. So it looks as though I am stuck with Bulb until the administrators sort things out. Which no doubt, will be a while, so I guess I have to buckle up and get the hardhat and pitchfork out!! Interesting that both companies answered their phones immediately, and Bulb is operating on a radio-silence "not answering the phone" basis...
Meanwhile, I have started a usage / costs spreadsheet, and guess what - looks as though January is the heaviest month for usage so far (no surprises there), and both are a bit higher than the usage at my old house. No surprises there either, we had an efficient gas boiler to heat the water and log burners for the bulk of our heating. No such luxury at the new house!
It looks as though my estimate of costs for our usage should be around £165 a month on current cap, which will obviously go up in April.
I could use some of my boiler replacement money to give to Bulb to look after, just to keep them happy, and not pay them £40 a month more than I need to, and see absolutely no benefit from that money sitting there doing nothing - or I could leave the cash in my savings account, which at least is earning me a tiny amount of interest!
on consideration... hardhat it is!

If you're really desperate to leave Bulb you can join EDF on their capped Standard Variable Tariff, but only if you phone them, and you can also opt for Variable Direct Debit. However, EDF aren't brilliant and communicating with them can be slow and difficult.0
