VirginMedia and my old contract but a new contract in my wifes name?

My VM Contract is coming to an end. They want to
increase my cost by 20% (post negotiation and all the discounts they can
find). New people can get the exact same deal for £20 pcm less.
The
contract is in my name. What stops people from cancelling/giving 30 days notice in their
name, and re-joining in their partners name at the same address?
I dont see anything in the contract that is address driven? The VirginMedia forum (not unsurprisingly) gives conflicting answers.

You will see plenty of examples online of people who have taken the approach you mention. A VM staff member confirmed this at the start of the thread you linked to:
"An account holder would need to give 30 days notice, Then wait 90 days to take up as new deal in the same name
A new account can be set up at the same property once the current service is disconnected."
Mrs Wonderbison is not the account holder, so it appears she could order the service to start the day after your service ends. She will want to remember to go through Quidco or TopCashback for cashback too and check other sites through them (broadband comparison sites) as they sometimes have different offers/cashback.

I was in the same situation but I threw this in VM face. When I reached the end of my contract and they increased my bill I told them I will cancel it and my wife will apply for a new cheaper contract. so it is your choice, either you give me the same cheap deal or I will cancel. They agreed to give me the cheap deal but took away my landline which I don't use anyway. But if you do, then do it the way you mentioned.0
