Moving from Vodafone to VM

I've put my order in for VM.  Vodafone require a 30 day notice period.  When going through the VM process, it didn't give me a install date just that the router would be sent in the post. Given Vodafone requires a phone line, and VM is fully fibre how do they switch without both charging for that cross over month?

If I call to cancel Vodafone now, I assume I will still pay for the next 30 days, and Virgin will start charging in from now I guess?

They don't switch as they are two totally separate infrastructures .
Voda run over Open Reach network VM use their own network .

Have you done anything about keep your current  phone number .
  • I don't have a current phone number, or phone.  Vodafone just lump the cost of the Land line in with their monthly bill.  I need to time it then I guess do I?  Tell Vodafone I want to cancel today, and see if Virgin will turn me on in 30 days time, or cancel and reorder in 25 days time of something?

It really depends on how inconvenient it would be to be without any broadband service at all.
    • If a gap in service is no big deal you could cancel Vodafone today and be gone in 30 days. you run the risk of Virgin being late or having unforeseen problems with your connection.
    • Or, at the other extreme, you could wait until Virgin are up and running before you cancel Vodafone. You're guaranteed to keep service but you'll be paying Vodafone for an extra month.

  • So yeah a bit of guessing game then.  Virgin have said I'll have router in 3 days, I do need service as 2 of us work from home, but don't want to pay for 2 months for the first month, as it will likely have been cheaper to stay with Vodafone.
