What small DFW things will you do this week 17/01?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation.  These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important 😀

    Good morning folks happy Monday!

    Hopefully I haven't cross-posted?

Very spendy weekend - it was our niece's 18th party. OH got very overexcited and ended up spending approx £60. I had spent £30 (despite not drinking as was driving home) and then £20 out for a taxi (from town back to m-i-l's where the car was). Ooooof.
Being in the role of sober auntie, I spent the night taping b00bies into structurally unsound dresses and checking bare feet for glass

Still OH had a lot of fun. He's still sleeping it off I think. He went to bed a 7.30 last night, came to the gym with me this morning and then went straight back to bed for another few hours. Some of us just have to cope as we need to start work... :smirk:

    So today's small things
    :star: B/L/D from stores
    :star: Gym 1/3
:star: Short walk at lunchtime and after work - need to move more
    :star: Wash on 30 deg
:star: Log food in free app (not a cal counter)
    :star: Work from home
:star: Heating on low. Hot water bottle if I get cold
:star: Make sure I do new skincare routine. I need to start looking after it!
:star: Put a loaf into the BM as OH will start looking for bread soon!

    Have a good one all

... Casually sneaks in after a much extended break from all things MSE....

    Morning!
Back on the bandwagon so aiming to post on here to keep momentum as I know how much these small things help! I've been lurking for the last week or so and noticed that I recognise some names! Today I have/ will:
    • Post on here!
    • Complete a balance transfer
    • Go for a run this morning
    • Pop to the shop for bits needed only!
    • Snap receipt
    • Food from stores
    • Text plumber to see what time he will be arriving - hoping he can fix issue with the kitchen tap meaning we won't have to boil the kettle to be able to wash up!
    • Check all accounts
    • Check TCB (nothing payable but £9.80 pending)
    • List a couple of things to sell on my Etsy
    • Post on my insta about said listings!
    • Take a few photos of other bits I've made for my insta whilst I'm working from home and actually have some sunshine!!!
Edited to add a couple more things...
    • Plumber said he'll be here this afternoon so popped a wash on at 30 degrees - will be hung on airer once out
    • Messaged a couple of previous buyers from my Etsy to ask for feedback - one responded instantly with some lovely feedback
    • My neighbour runs a food van and had popped home and spotted I'm home today so asked if I wanted anything for lunch - previous answer would have been yes but today it was a no!
    • Found out TV finance info so I know exact amount and date it needs paying by to ensure I have enough put by before it goes onto a plan (not until Sept as it's interest free for now)
    • Need a few birthday presents for next month - have sourced a free crochet pattern online for one (which I have all the materials for) and will print at work tomorrow

Can't think of anything else right now, but I will be reading everyone's posts to see if there is anything else I can do!

Hope you all have a good day.

    Starting again..

    Evening all :)
Thanks for starting the thread @carrielovesfanta :)
    Welcome back @twiggy86 :)
@jadewest94 are you quitting your main job or Sainsburys?
Icy here again today, but not as bad as it has been and at least it went off after a while instead of hanging around for days getting more and more slippery.
    Today I have:
    Dog walk
Folded washing from airer and put it in the airing cupboard to finish off
Made some soup from the veg lurking at the bottom of the fridge
Did a bit in the garden after lunch as it was sunny :)  Only swept up and composted some leaves off the path, pulled up a few seedlings of a so called 'ornamental' grass thing that I pulled out the year before last (it was enormous). Seedlings still keep coming up everywhere, which is ok unless they start to look as though they are growing into triffids! Also emptied a couple of dead plants into the compost, and cut back the chilli plants that have survived so far in the conservatory. Not sure if they will make it through to the spring, but if they do they should get going quicker than new seedlings would. Found a couple of small green chillis on one of them  :)
It was nice to see the bulbs starting to come up :)
Made a lemon meringue pie to use the latest batch of HM lemon curd. Actually I just finished it off really, as I made the pastry case and blind baked it yesterday. Told OH it is not for eating today, as there is jelly and fruit sitting in the fridge for pudding.
    Checked banks and updated spreadsheet
Paid milk bill, and ordered a pair of swimming goggles for little GS, who is desperately jealous of his older sister's pair :) (not very moneysaving I know!). OH paid for his annual membership of an organisation he belongs to. So not a NSD, about £27 spent altogether.
Finished off the turkey, veg and stuffing pie I made yesterday for dinner. Cooked mashed potatoes to go with it, and did extra so there is enough to make fish cakes for tomorrow's dinner. OH likes making these, so one job less for me!

I'm leaving my main job, sainsburys work better for me tbh. Plus it's better pay and benefits. I won't know if I get a full time contract with sainsburys until early February. Otherwise I would leave my main job already

    Morning all!

    Today I have/will:
    • Checked banks
    • Give pooch a quick walk
    • Take lunch to work
    • Defrost car using warm water (as opposed to leaving it running for 20 hours as my neighbour did right outside our bedroom window at some un-godly hour this morning!)
    • Print free crochet pattern at work
    • Go to gym at lunch (session already paid for)
    • Dinner from stores
    • Do some crochet - possibly work on some socks which are a Christmas present (really early not late!!)
Will update later if I think of anything else!

    Hi all,

    Can I join?

Anybody want to share a sample of their spreadsheets? I've created my own, but can feel myself adapting already (only created yesterday!) Obviously delete figures before sharing

    Thanks

  • Morning all!  Thanks for the thread CLF! Jade that's really exciting job-news! welcome to newbies to the thread too!

Food all planned out for the week - we had chicken stir fry last night which made use of one of the two bunches of spring onions we got in the veg box, plus the chinese leaf type stuff, and some of the kale-mountain. I also remembered to get some of the frozen roasted beetroot out of the freezer ready for tonight - that will be being reheated in a pan with some of the mushrooms I cooked the other day, some chick peas and undoubtedly more of the kale. (everything is likely to come with a side of kale this week!)  it will then be heaped onto a bowl of couscous and topped with halloumi, a dressing made from tahini and lemon juice and possibly some toasted seeds.

Banking checked - all good - and I have transferred a lump of the surplus in the joint account across to Premium Bonds.

MrEH's car is in the garage so they can do the diagnostics for the emissions fault it threw up when we were on our way back from Scotland - so far it's looking like Peugeot's own anti-corrosion warranty might be covering it though rather than the warranty from the dealer he bought it from! They've identified two quite significant areas one of which might be causing the issue as it's affecting the seal around the DPF. We'll see - they haven't mentioned the anti-corrosion warranty but I've suggested he finds out what he can about it and then asks them how come that doesn't take effect...

I'm still keeping up with daily yoga - today will be day 10. I will have to factor in a break over the weekend though as we're busy.
