Get a cheap mono laser printer, buy snd use compatible toners til your hearts content. I buy toners for £13 from ebay.

Inkjets get clogged up if you're not using them quite regularly. When they get clogged they will not print completely. you then have to keep purging the ink cartridge to clear the nozzle and its very expensive every time your purge.

I had the r300 Epson with cis system and used it for many many years. Purge would make the ink level in the cis tanks drop a considerable amount. I can't imagine how much % it would use on a genuine ink cartridge.

I gave up on cus because I was printing for business and I needed to print first time, every time and not need to purge.

This is the way to go, also if you print graphics the paper will be wet and will curl up especially if you use cheap recycled paper.

Home type printers tend to be cheap they normally get you on the consumables. Seatbeltnoob has been lucky with the compatible toners he uses. One day that cartridge just might decide dump toner inside the inners of the printer.

To answer the op, it looks like you don't use your printer enough, bit like buying a diesel car and doing 100 miles a year in it.

Good idea about the laser printer,
I have a new Canon Pixma inkjet printer that doesn’t get used regularly.
Message says ink is low even though it’s not used much. I use compatible cartridges.

I always buy printers that have a tried and tested CISS sytem. You just can't beat a CISS system when it comes to ink costs, It's pennies, over the years I would have literally had to spend thousands for genuine cartriges.

My current printer is a Canon, the replacement cartriges for it cost more than the printer and it even came with ink.
