My OH grew up in one and the property was extended up and out as the family expanded. It gives me a taste of freedom when we stay over as I can get out the property even when I struggle to walk; I'm hoping to buy one and sell my flat.

Looking around to see what has sold / is for sale, plenty are owned by families. Some have had the loft converted to provide extra bedrooms, some have the upstairs as the living area with downstairs for the bedrooms.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

We lived in a bungalow for a few years.  We loved it.  We found the rooms more flexible than a house.  The extra bedrooms in the house we lived in were rarely used.  We used one of the bedrooms as a dining room.  It was a bit cheaper to put flooring down as no stairs.  Much easier to clean the outside windows as no ladders needed  :D

We would still be living there if we hadn’t moved 200 miles.

There are loads of bungalows where we live now, they get sold instantly.

I’m off to view Saturday could this be the one after a 12 month search?

We rented a bungalow for 6 months between houses and was surprised how much we liked it.  I particularly liked being able to go and get a cup of tea in the morning without having to worry about stairs!

It was a little colder than our mid terrace because of all the extra external wall area and large windows.  There are things you could do to help with this if you were an owner though so it wouldn’t put me off.

    Good luck with your viewing!
  • We moved from a Victorian terraced house to a bungalow in 2015.

We love our bungalow.  Easy to heat, easy to clean.  It has a large kitchen (I think from incorporating the third bedroom at some point, but before we bought it so I don't know.) which we love.  It has a large garden which we love.  Two double bedrooms of the same size.

    Just go for it!

    We love our bungalow too!

Actually, it has been converted to have bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, but the kids occupied the first floor.  Now they have moved out, it has become the guest suites!  We are now considering the possibility of having my mum move in as she is in need of support and struggles to remain in her own home with carers.  If we do go down that route, our ground floor bedroom, the other ground floor bedroom, plus ground floor bathroom will become her bedroom/lounge/bathroom and we will move upstairs.

    Bungalows are very flexible!

In the US, bungalows are referred to as single storey living and perfectly normal for a lot of people!

My in laws have lived in the same bungalow for nearly 60 years.
it’s fabulous, and worth a small fortune now, as developers don’t build them any more, but an ageing population wants them like never before.
I would buy one in a heartbeat, and hopefully you’ll never need move again!

A bungalow must cost a little more to heat because of the way it's laid out, but I'd certainly buy one.

Well I viewed and although the inside was beautiful the location wasn’t right. I would definitely keep an open mind for the right one.

That reminds me of my grandmother’s bungalow.  We used to visit when I was a small child in the 50s.  It had a big front garden in which she grew roses and a big back garden which backed onto a stream  and a big wood.  It had a large lounge, 2 double bedrooms and a small kitchen.

I always wanted to live in my own bungalow because of hers but I didn’t get one until I was in my 50s  :'(
