Uninstalling Google Drive

Hi

When I turn on my pc it takes ages to get into Microsoft Edge. After waiting ages a box comes up asking me to sign into Google Drive. After I cancel this I get straight into Microsoft Edge so I assume it is this which is causing the problem. I went into Setting and Apps and tried to uninstall Google Drive but I get a message saying I have to close it first before uninstalling but as I have not opened it I am not sure what to do.  Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Could try this to stop Google Drive startup

Right click the Google Drive icon in your Taskbar (it may be a hidden icon) click the 3 dots on the upper Right (Settings)/Preferences/Advanced tab. Uncheck start Google Drive at Windows Startup

Restart PC and try uninstall again. Might be an idea to check what data (if any) has been ferreted away to Drive.

Open Task Manager.  If you sew a button marked more details click on it.  Go to the startup tab.  If Google Drive is on the list disable it.  Reboot.  Are things better?

On the processes tab look for an entry for Google Drive.  Select it and click on the end task button.  That will force stop it.

    Hi
I opened Task Master and while it was not an active app it was showing as a background app which I was able to close and then go into Settings, Apps and Uninstall. Thankfully I got it uninstalled. Hopefully that solves the problem and my internet search engine will open must faster now.

    Thanks everyone for your help

Did you check what was uploaded to Google Drive? Do you have a backup elsewhere "just in case"?

I would not be 100% sure that Drive is the cause of your speed issue. What is the spec of your PC and what version of Windows are you running?
  • Thanks for feedback.

Unfortunately I did not check what I had uploaded to Google Drive. However when I turned on my PC this morning Google Drive is back on my list of app and I am again getting the message at start up to sign into Google Drive.

It is a Cube PC. Intel (R) Core TN i3 4160 CPU @ 360 GHz.

I am running Windows 10 Home

Depending on exactly how you shut down Google Drive will be an on startup boot. If you press CTRL+ALT+DEL then click TASK MANAGER, on the task manager press MORE DETAILS, followed by choosing the STARTUP tab, you can disable Google Drive in there. That tab will also show you what is having the most impact on startup.

How much RAM do you have?
