Indeed.  Maybe the GSHP was for the swimming pool and has been removed?

If the ground coils are still in place and OK, then that could be a worthwhile upgrade going forward.

We really need the OP to tell us more.

The 6kW boiler will be on one of the 32A breakers. I would suggest that you switch them off in turn until you find the right one.
It's also odd that the ground floor lights have a 32A breaker. Lighting circuits aren't usually wired in 2.5sq.mm.

It would help the OP immensely if he knew what all the breaker were connected to and whether stuff is using leccy when it shouldn't be or doesn't need to or even if they are still connected.

If the pool was heated, if there was a GSHP and if any of it has been removed or decommissioned then why are all the breakers still switched on unless the connections have been rewired but not relabelled.

Methinks that a bit of detective work is required.

The OP does say that they have LPG as their main heat source, and not a GSHP.
If that's the case there's no reason for some of the circuit breakers to be switched on
No reason to be switched on and absolutely no reason to be labelled Ground Source Heat Pump.

  • Thanks for all help. We have done some detective work and many things are mis labelled on the fuseboard. The boiler turned out to be the 'lights ground floor'.  We have turned it off all unnecessary other items now. Pit and underfloor heating is a mystery but is now turned off so can't be doing any harm now.  Next thing to investigate is the GSHP and where it is and if it's still functional - we had been thinking of this as a possible solution for heating the house so it would be brilliant if there's some existing infrastructure we can adapt.

I'd think you'd notice a groundsource heatpump - it would be about the size of a biggish boiler and have several pipes leading in and out.of it - at least wo to the ground loop(s) and two more those to whatever it was heating.

However if the ground loops are still in situ and you could pressure test them for integrity they could significantly reduce the cost of an installation of a replacement although it depends whether it was installed just to heat the swimming pool and may not be adequate to heat the building.

\Likewise, where is the underfloor heating that has a pump fed from CB no 8, Having a pump implies that its a hot water system which may have a manifold and other gubbins associated with it unless it's now being fed from your fossil fuel boiler

Sounds like you've got some interesting exploring to do

Definitely more detective work needed.  There is a rather delapidated pool house that we haven't really looked at yet so I suspect that my solve some of the mysteries. Will go and have a proper inspection tomorrow.  I strongly suspect that the GSHP will have been for the pool and pool house but I remember the seller saying that the pool had been very expensive to heat so perhaps it wasn't a very efficient system.

Very well spotted! The ground floor lights turned out to be the boiler!
