I am a very basic internet user who came late to the internet. My prevoius laptop needed replacing so I recently bought this one. Old one had a very effective Ad blocker someone installed for me but I can't remember which one it was.
I tend to just go on the forums , follow news etc search things online and use emails.
I am being inundated with ads from my local news site and other sites I visit daily.
I would appreciate any recommendations for a simple ad blocker.

If you still have the old one and can get it to boot you can probably work out what was installed.2

Which web browser are you using? All of them except probably Internet Explorer (which still exists but is deprecated) will let you install extension/add-ons. uBlock Origin is probably the favoured ad-blocker. (The favourite used to be Adblock Plus until something happened with it - I don't recall the specifics but remember it along the lines of the extension did as much spying on you as what it was trying to block).Jenni x2

As others have asked, what browser are you using.2 -
Sorry for not getting back. I'm not very knowlegable about things re internet. if Firefox is a browser that's what I'm on. My usual techie friend who usually sorts these issues has been ill so I didn't like to bother her.I'm very careful re sites I visit. The ads come from our local news feed and a regional one which was a newspaper and now online. Some pages are littered with ads or ads will pop up while I'm reading.I've done the cookie setting thing on them all rejecting everything except essentiial cookies. I've never signed up to their websites.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Just noticed an earlier reply. The former laptop a fairly new one took a tumble down the stairs when I dropped it. That's no longer here but I survived the fall.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Hi,]did you try the previous suggestion for uBlock Origin? If not, it's easy to install, even for a non techie. As you're on Firefox, click on Tools, should be along top left of your screen, click settings, scroll down to Extensions & Themes and click, in the Find more add-ons box, type uBlock Origin then search, now click on uBlock Origin then click Install, job done,
