Did you mean LPG? If oil has become cheaper than mains gas and is likely to stay that way then that's quite a significant change.QrizB said:stevew01 said:In the last 18 months we have seen prices from 20ppl to the current figure of 66.2ppl for heating oil.Considering that a litre of oil contains 10kWh of heat, oil has been (and will be) cheaper than gas.Based on the prices in this thread, oil is 57-66p/litre - equivalent to 5.7-6.6p/kWh. Current fixed rate deals for mains gas are all over 7p/kWh and we're expecting the April cap to be somewhere around 8p/kWh. So yes, once the current cap is lifted oil looks likely to be cheaper than mains gas on a p/kWh basis.Exactly how long this lasts for, of course, depends on a lot of things. It could all change over summer, or it could stay that way for a couple of years. Your guess is as good as mine in that regard.N. Hampshire, he/him. My LPG price has gone up 15% over the past year to 6.3p/kWh, so not too bad so far.0

Hi
Im moving house in 2 weeks and my fixed tariff with So energy finishes in March. They have said because I’m moving they can’t put me on variable rate in new property. I have to take out another fixed tariff with them. It seems all the energy companies Iv contacted to switch to will only offer fixed tariff too. Has anyone else had this problem.Thanks0 -

When you move in read the meter(s) and contact that supplier. Give them the meter readings, your details, and ask to remain on their standard variable tariff until you've settled in. Don't let them persuade you to sign up to a fixed rate at this time.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. When you move into the new property you will automatically be on a deemed capped tariff with the incumbent supplier of that property. You don't need to do anything apart from contact them and give your details. You will likely have to do this on the phone as internet options will probably only allow you to select a fixed tariff. If they try to force you into a fix ask to be put through to their complaints team.sheryllyons1 said:Hi

When Neon Reef went bust I was moved to British Gas whose customer service is awful, a helpdesk in India, monthly billing that is in fact 6 monthly, 40 min plus wait on phones, web site that is slow.... Does anyone know when the new price cap in April is determined by the energy companies that we will be able to switch companies and stay on the price cap? I contacted one today and they would no move me at the moment as they make a loss on the current price cap, will this be the case going forward - any clues anyone?0

The price cap was announced several days ago. You aren't entitled to go on the SVT if you change supplier.

They might accept you from April onwards once they've increased all their tariffs to be inline with the new cap. At the moment I don't think they'll want any more customers that'll end up just costing them money.

OK seems that as soon as the companies have sorted out what their April tarrifs are I may be in luck, I just hope I can get away from British Gas they are terrible.0
