  • You say you are on a smart meter - are you looking at the monitor to see what your actual usage is costing on a daily basis ?

  • Qriz sorry won’t let me tag again, and out tariff now with BG is gas:3.860 per KWH 24.879 per day
electricity : 20.530 per KWH  standing charge 22.893 per day.
my previous rate with PE was gas:2.812 standing charge was 22p a day.
electricity : 15.460 PER kWh  standing charge is 23.310 per day

It would really help if you could give us some idea of your annual use.  Is there any chance you could still try logging in to Octopus and see if any old bills are there?

I have a suspicion it might not be quite as bad as you think it is. I think BG set up all SoLR transferred accounts as "pay on receipt of bill" instead of monthly Direct Debit. This means you get a bill for recent use and then pay it. Because we're currently in the winter you're using a lot of energy so it's a large bill. Whereas previously you've been on a monthly Direct Debit which evens out your annual expected use over 12 equal payments.

This is why your annual use will help so we can work out your expected annual cost.
  • I will try now, think it could possible be on my old phone. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for looking up the details. The BG tariff is the same Ofgem-capped one that many of us are on, and is the best you'll find at the moment.
However, as you can see it's a 37% increase on gas and a 33% increase on electricity. If £133/month was the "correct" number with PE your new tariff will work out as a bit over £200/month.

@Foxymum - as above just check those meter reads and look for the letters A, C and E

It's time to be ultra energy conscious.  Turn off those lights, turn the temp down a degree or two or three, wear an extra layer.
That's what I do! only have the heating on when family are down and temperature is 19.5 on the thermostat and the boiler temps are 47 degrees Water and 51 degrees heating. It's the grandkids that put my bills up by using the Xbox more than I do.
Someone please tell me what money is

I'm not sure you can blame it on your grandchildren, an XBox will draw between 80 and 200 watts depending on exactly what they are playing, the TV will be around 100-200 depending on the model, so even in a worse case scenario they are only costing you around 10p an hour and it could be as low as 4p an hour.

Also your water temp is too low, you are not saving any money by doing that as you have to consume more hot water in a hot/cold mix for the same output temperature, as well as being low enough that you are potentially risking legionella.

Well as I only use the water to shower, wash up or make a flask of tea, boiled in the kettle same for washing up boiled in the kettle then cold water added, being doing it for 3 years and no symptoms of any disease in that time

I wish people would stop overstating legionella risks on this forum. It only forms in standing water so if you are emptying your tank most days the risk is practically zero.
