Consumer rights regarding a tele 3 month out it’s warranty

Hi I bought a LG television from Currys 15 month ago and or has suddenly got a black line appeared on the screen I’ve tried few different tricks LG have said to fix but hasn’t worked. I’ve rang Currys and said nothing they can do because outside it’s 12 month warranty it was a £1900 tele surely after 15 month they should still fix it ?

Try LG directly. Might not work though as technically you will need to prove the fault was due to manufacturing if memory serves.

No, they don't need to...yet. It's up to you to prove it's faulty, and not the result of wear and tear, misuse, etc. Once you have a report to show it's a fault that was present or inevitable at the point of sale, then Currys need to provide a remedy. At the moment, they aren't obliged to do anything.0

LG have confirmed it’s the screen which needs replacing will cost £900 nothing to do with anything we’ve done . Currys have just said it’s out of warranty surely a two thousand pound tele should be breaking after 15 month that’s not right and surely under consumer rights they should fix it up to 6 years I’ve read ?0

The up to 6 year thing needs you to prove the fault was there at manufacturing. Problem is, how much is trying to prove it with experts going to cost?

Get them to put it into a report that they've inspected the item, its a fault with their hardware etc and then present it to Currys but obviously the contact centre agent wont be willing to give you that report.0 -
No engineer has been out just done some pixel reset which they said took 5 hours then that didn’t work rang them back and they said it seems like he screen I said what price we looking at said £900 do I request engineer out from LG first ? If they will0

I had a similar problem with a power tool than stopped working outside of the warranty (& the manufacturer also stopped trading).If I remember correctly you’re protected under the Consumer Rights Act (even out of warranty for up to 6 years) i.e. the goods must be of reasonable quality.I personally would expect a TV to last longer than a year, if this was not the case people would be buying new TVs annually…
You are also protected understand Section 75 of the consumer credit card act.
Did you purchase the TV on your credit card?0 -
Yes, you have 6 years (5 in Scotland) to pursue a claim however after 6 months, it’s up to the purchaser to prove the goods were faulty at the time of purchase. Usually done through a report which can be added to your claim. Did you purchase the TV on your credit card?If paid for on a credit card and you went down the Section 75 route, the credit card company would also ask for a report after 6 months.If LG have been out, ask if they’ll write a report although I’m not sure if they’ll want to say one of their products was inherently faulty. Probably better paying for an independent report.I personally wouldn’t buy such an expensive TV from Curry’s. Why not buy from somewhere such as John Lewis or Richer Sounds that offer 5 and 6 year warranties? Probably wouldn’t be having as much trouble as you are now.1 -
I think I may have been fortunate in my situation as I successfully argued for a full refund.Under the Sales of Goods Act products should last a reasonable time - up to 6 years of purchase date.Firstly I would go to the shop your brought the Tv from (calling head office is most probably best). Ask either for the TV to be repaired, replaced or ask for a full refund.I believe that any repairs should not be at any additional cost to you (but I’m sure someone on here will be able to verify this). Hence going for a replacement or full refund may be less hassle!0
