Annoying problems with Virgin mobile?

My iPhone keeps changing Region and muddling my numbers up so I can't make phone calls. I have to reset Region on phone which is annoying. Turns out Virgin network isn't based in UK but Belgium. This is a common problem. I'm thinking about going with another provider. I've been with Virgin for 7 years and apart from that no problems. Which is the best provider that don't incur charges when travelling abroad?
