Vodafone - roaming & contract end

Hi all, my 18m sim only contract with Vodafone expires in February. I believe I wouldn't be liable for roaming charges with it, but when it expires if I do nothing and it goes to a rolling monthly am I then liable for them? I'm not sure if this constitutes a new contract or not. They're obviously quite keen for me to renew but it may not be wise. Thanks

  • If you are not liable for roaming charges now then at the end of your minimum term the same terms continue until such time as Vodafone tell you they are changing them and give you the chance to agree or terminate.

It's the same contract continuing after its 18 month minimum term, until you or Vodafone modify or terminate.

I'm with Three and my contract term ended last October and I had hoped to let it roll onto a monthly basis and retain the existing inclusive roaming benefit. Unfortunately, Three gave me an ultimatum which was that the existing agreement was ending this month and I could either take on a new contract (without roaming) or leave.

    I'm leaving.

Vodafone discounts tend to have an end date though, so if you have any, at some point after your contract end date it may cost more to keep the plan than it would be to pay the extra few quid for roaming on a new plan.

Yep, but my discount amounts to about £1.20 as it's a sim only plan!

I just called them up and although they tried to avoid confirming they eventually agreed that if I don't renew and just carry on no roaming charges in Europe will apply as it started in 2020, but at some point they will probably get everyone to switch to a new plan.

Thanks for your help everyone, hope this is useful for others too.

Just to add as per the MSE page on roaming if you did start a new contract Vodafone would charge £2 a day, or if you buy a package an eight-day pass will cost £8, while a 15-day pass will cost £15.
