Unless we have a smart grid with smart meters (which function properly) resulting in more and more consumers and generators moving to Octopus like companies, the SEG is not going to increase.

4.1p is the Octopus SEG rate, if you get your electricity from AN Other supplier (or Go / Go Faster).
7.5p is the Outgoing Fixed rate for Octopus electricity customers (not Go / Go Faster).

It would make sense if SEG prices were linked to the time of year (like a simpler version of Agile) . A unit exported in December or January is worth more to the grid than one in May or June.

If you're on Octopus and not to Go tariff, it makes no sense to not be on the Agile Outgoing tariff, average unit price is typically over 20p!

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • ... what will be interesting will be to see if anyone responds to Octopus's recent increase. That would be a sign of a healthy market.

7.5p to buy and 30p to sell? Seems terribly unfair and is the perfect example of a need for government intervention
