I've noticed from a couple of posts today that if a word is italicised then the forum software seems to insert an uneditable line feed for no apparent reason, is this just me?

Edit: added a comment about the same happening with bolding but editing seemed to fix the original issue!

I noticed the same thing after a member call-out too, @esbanker!  Not sure if it will work here . .

I observe the same issues and was going to create a post about this, but then saw this thread.

I find that hitting Enter at the end of the line is a workaround against this "foible". :) It even works for a user name callout, like if @coffeehound is mentioned.

Is MSE aware of this @MSE_James? (Tagged you as you seem to have responded in this board most recently). :)

Yes we've spotted this thread - thank you all for your reports. We were aware of the odd behaviour when @-mentioning a username, but the line breaks when formatting text are a new one.

It's on my list to delve in to and make sure it's reported and raised with our suppliers if necessary.

I'll post back here when there's any update.

Just to add that I'm certainly experiencing this after putting text in bold.

Seems to be more noticeable when editing - but maybe that's just because I'm more likely to put stuff in bold or italics when editing.

    It's very annoying!

It is annoying ... but I've got into the habit of hitting Enter right at the end of my post (whether I've used formatting or not) - this resolves the foible. :)

Edit: and I go and prove myself wrong by NOT hitting Enter on this post 🤣

Email alerts for threads I have  not book marked.

Name tagging, MSE James became MSE Martin top hint.

    Problems selecting text.

    Line breaks.

    TIA. Thanks in advance.
