I pay £22 a month as i got full cover for me + mrs.
Considering they didn't provide the service i kind of expected that and a touch more due to the experience as a whole was disgusting. 7 hours is a tad excessive.
I dont mind waiting say 3 - 4 hours as i get that each case takes different times. It was being fobbed off by the call center that riled me up.
So their offer is roughly three months' premium for your part of the policy. A c.25% discount.  That doesn't seem unreasonable.  Worth calling them when the contract is up for renewal and seeing if you can get a discount at renewal, as well.
My part of the policy is the policy, it is not split in 2. Rac dont do a £11 a month for the level of cover i get. And why the 25% discount?
My contract has just been renewed in November.
So are you saying £30 for 7 hours standing in the freezing cold and getting told lies, to then have to tow the car myself is a reasonable settlement?

    What do you consider reasonable?

    Yes, I am.

You haven't incurred any cost, just inconvenience. Therefore, a goodwill gesture is appropriate, and I think £30 is reasonable.

As for the maths, I think that it was reasonable to assume that "I pay £22 a month as i got full cover for me + mrs" meant you pay £22 per month for both of you.  So £11 each, therefore £30 would be roughly a quarter of the annual premium for your half of the policy.
  • A 7 hours is slighly more than an inconvenience, suppose i am lucky, right? True i had no financial loss from it and luckily i had a friend to come rescue me.

The £11 maths only works if they offer the same service for that price, they dont.
Sounds like you work for RAC, if you dont maybe you should apply. Quite a staunch defender.

But it was a genuine question as i felt that was a low ball offer considering of my ordeal.

22.58 - Tow truck called me to say he is on his way - he was only told about my breakdown 45 mins prior to his call - by this time i had given up and got a friend to tow me home.

So, did you cancel the call once you'd arranged for your friend to tow you home, or did you allow the RAC staff member to attend and fail to locate the vehicle?

How far did you break down from home?

And there it is.  Never gets old.

If you only wanted views you agree with, you should have said at the outset.  Saves a whole lot of bother and childish accusations of a vested interest.

  • Once the tow truck called to say he is on his way, i told him not to bother.

Calm down was just a little jibe....i take it you dont then? ;-)
The only thing i disagree with is the £11 thing.
But i asked a genuine question and you answered it. So thanks for your time.

Just felt glossing over the unacceptable wait time as an inconvenience is quite frustrating.

Fair enough, but being objective: What made it more than an inconvenience?  Did you suffer any other consequences or costs?  That's how a goodwill payment can be judged as reasonable or not.  Your initial ask of a premium refund and conpensation is frankly ridiculous, unless you can show you incurred costs of that order as a result of their failure to meet the terms of the contract.   I'm not convinced they breached the contract in any case.

Maybe the person who told you nothing had been done was the one giving you the wrong information.

As I understand calls are dealt with on a priority basis not first come basis. Maybe there were calls came in with a higher priority than yours.
