Expat (Singapore) savings account in UK

I wonder if anyone can help please. My son is moving to Singapore for two years for his job. He has NatWest current account which he intends to keep open for when he returns  and then open a local bank account in Singapore on arrival for his duration there. My question is about savings. He has had to close his savings account as the one he had was for uk residents only. He’s not sure what to do with his savings for the next couple of years. Can anyone offer any advice?

When I was in your son's position I simply used my parents' address for the bank and did not close accounts: fine for ordinary saving accounts but not for an ISA. As for what he should do with his savings: interest rates are so low at the moment that it is not worth worrying about an ordinary savings account. I do suggest that he investigate whether he can open a 'help to buy' ISA before he leaves and leave some of his money in it, since the government bonus if he ever buys a home in the UK would be well worth while. Other than that, it would be sensible to use most of his savings to establish himself in in Singapore and make the most of the experience.
