The gap is 900mm so the unit width is non-negotiable; the hob needs such a space and don't fancy trying to move the existing units along the wall by 100mm etc

The Ikea units we've bought to date have all gone on an originally empty wall to make a run of tall units and so a difference in depth hasnt been noticeable however the lack of service space is something I've seen mentioned many times before.

I have just done something similar (replaced a built-in, under counter fridge and a freezer with storage) in an otherwise high-quality kitchen. I didn't want to spend too much, as I wasn't sure my idea would work, and we will probably replace the kitchen soon-ish anyway. I used flatpackkitchens.co.uk as they had the right design colour and price. I am quite impressed with the result. The carcasses click together (I used a lot of glue as well!) and the result seems sturdy, square and accurate.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look. Our existing kitchen is a Wren affair and not sure if it was originally off white or its just discoloured over time but it certainly looks white until you put something brand new and white next to it at which point you can see its not. May go for an intentionally different colour to not try and match in the same way the worksurface over the unit will be SS rather than the grey quartz in the rest of the kitchen.
