Credti card security in UK

Options

You won’t be liable for unauthorised payments made from your account after you’ve told us that a payment tool was lost, stolen or compromised.

We may reverse or adjust a refund if we discover that you weren’t entitled to it.

-----------------

This can also mean that if someone has stolen my credentials and did the transaction, I didn't make enough effort to protect my device/network etc, so they may not refund me...
Then, what devices are actually accepted? What browser version? What OS?? No mentions of these technical details, so I guess that they can't complain about those, at least.

What I'm trying to achieve here is the understanding of the British system for credit card protection, in one country in Europe it was the opposite, I had to pay a separate insurance for each card to have 72h claim on the credit card, after that no protection, but in UK it seems unlimited and for whatever card, also the citycitizen.co.uk says the same.

So I wonder if you have any additional resource where I can verify this delicated matter, thanks.

This is also the reason why I've seen way too many people using credit cards everywhere here, for any kind of service online, the common belief is "These are money from the bank, not mine, and the bank is responsable for their own money in front of a fraud".

I'm not sure how much that is correct in terms of responsability :# , but yes, the money are from the bank :D .

In general, if you haven't been negligent, you'll be refunded.  And increasingly, even if you have been negligent, you'll be refunded.

Devices refers to any devices used for transactions. The model and operating software is irrelevant.

They don't seek to address this by publishing a detailed list of supported versus unsupported version numbers, etc - this would be extremely difficult to maintain, so the working assumption has to be that if your device can access Barclays (whether via app or browser) then it's effectively supported, provided you understand and accept the broad principles outlined in that article:

    Your computer, smartphone or tablet

    • Don’t allow anyone else to use a device (or your account on a device) that could be used to access your bank details
    • Don’t use a shared email address to receive emails that contain your bank details
    • If your smartphone or tablet uses face or fingerprint security, don’t allow anyone else to register their face or fingerprint. We treat any transaction on your account that’s authorised in this way as authorised by you
    • Take reasonable care when using Online Banking and the Barclays app. Log out at the end of each session and don’t leave your computer, smartphone or tablet unattended while you’re logged in
    • Install any security updates from your device’s manufacturer and keep its apps up to date
    • Use – and update regularly – antivirus and internet security software on your device

Surely your hope should be that it's irrelevant?  Not sure what you're meaning by "leave my cc saved somewhere" - the guarantee relates specifically to use of the online banking or app?

I had quite a few fraudulent transactions on my Barclaycard a couple of years ago. I had no issues getting the money reimbursed. They only asked me if I recognised the transactions and reminded me that it's fraud to claim that a transaction is fraudulent when it's not. I had a similar experience with Amex. This has never been a problem for me.

Just because the language has changed a bit as has the technology the basics still prevail.  If you give someone your credit card and also give them your pin then you are allowing them to use that card for whatever they fancy.

It doesn't matter if it's the actual plastic card which some people used to put in their wallet along with the bit of paper with their pin written on it. Likewise it doesn't matter if you son/cousin/boyfriend/some stranger can easily get into your laptop and access the excel file where you store all that same info.  If you allow someone to use your card you are liable.

I don't allow anyone to use my card and no one has access to my devices, this was not the point of my question :)

It seems you catched the notification, it may happen that you don't , so my question was about: what if I discover the transaction after 2-3 weeks for example (average time to see the new balance)

My point is that use of those facilities isn't covered by the guarantee you linked to, which is clear about its scope:

Our guarantee for Online Banking and the Barclays app

If you’re a victim of a scam or fraud when using Online Banking or the Barclays app, we’ll refund money taken from your account that you’re entitled to.

    Our promise to you

When you use our Online Banking services or the Barclays app, you're protected by our guarantee. [...]

That's not to say that you don't have protection in the event of unauthorised transactions though, just that they're mandated by the FCA regulations rather than being within the scope of the guarantee you found:
