It's also a joke, buying one from Currys

OP should negotiate with RS  for a better offer /deal?  Contacting the Richer_Sounds_Company_Representative via private message would be one way?

But a TV with the free RS guarantee is a better buy than from almost anywhere else as there would be no 'credit' offered from most suppliers at the age of this set.  Nor would it have been collected and tested for a potential repair for nothing.

Richer, I feel, have simply become more transparent (with the current Guarantee T&Cs) about how they'll handle 'cannot repair' replacements when (as is likely here) technology has moved on apace and any new set is likely much superior to the ?2018 model year?  purchased in early 2019 on discount?

I'm not sure company reps are allowed to receive PMs? (Or maybe it's they're not allowed to send them).

Richer Sounds have a sign in their store of the route to follow for complaints, including second level complaints and then even how to email the owner of the chain if it is not resolved.

Knowing their ethos, I would expect that they would not want there to be any confusion or wrong expectations of the terms of their 'guarantee' and if nothing else maybe they could make these crystal clear going forward

  • Thanks all! Spoke to them on Saturday and explained that under the Consumer Rights Act I wasn’t happy the product had shown necessary durability and they called back today to offer us a full refund in vouchers. Delighted 😊

Further, the Consumer Rights Act says nothing about 'beyond economic repair'.
Richer sounds have just called to let me know that the TV is beyond economical repair and have offered us £210 in vouchers (the TV was purchased for £299).
The consumer has elected for a repair or replace. So they should repair it (even if it is not economic to repair) or offer a full refund (and RS still get to keep the fee the OP paid for the RS 'guarantee'').
Then the consumer needs to exercise their rights under the law, rather than under the guarantee (with all that that entails including likely being asked to provide a report stating it is inherently faulty.)

You are not entitled to a full refund after 6 months of use, you would be entitled to a partial refund taking into account the use you have had since it was delivered.

(8)If the consumer exercises the final right to reject, any refund to the consumer may be reduced by a deduction for use, to take account of the use the consumer has had of the goods in the period since they were delivered, but this is subject to subsections (9) and (10).
Finally, RS 6 year guarantee is free.

Exactly the route I went down. Offered a full refund today. Many thanks.
