Barclays Premier Banking Joint account

Hi, Apologies if this has been asked previously on here wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.
Me and the misses have a joint account with Barclays, I recently applied for premier banking and was asked if I wanted to change my card from the old Blue debit to the Black premier one that comes with £1000 daily ATM withdrawals. So I agreed and got put through another Credit Check etc That's fine and went through.
I was told my wife has to call to change hers if she wanted to. So she did and strangely she got rejected. How does one get rejected for a debit card? When the other joint account holder has one. Was told to call back next day to see if they can appeal- which we don't see the point as it's just a card.
Can anyone shed some light on this on why one would get rejected on a debit card? It's like opening a current bank account and saying you can't have a card with it.

The Premier application process is for an account not a card. Did your wife do a separate application on her sole accounts(s) rather than a card request on the joint account?30+ years working in banking1

No only Change of card on the joint account?flo22 said:The Premier application process is for an account not a card. Did your wife do a separate application on her sole accounts(s) rather than a card request on the joint account?
She does not have a sole account either do I . Just one joint account between me and her.0 -
That is very odd. Have you had the new account number yet? I'm wondering if the new application for your wife was done before the account was changed (and therefore done as a fresh application for Premier).30+ years working in banking0

It's the same old sort code and account number( The same for both of us ) just the account has been upgraded, but I passed the credit check for the card change but the wife did not, that's how i understand it.flo22 said:That is very odd. There are 2 different types of cards that Barclays issue. 1 where the card always has to connect electronically to a server to check that a payment can be authorised, the other type is where additionally a card payment can be processed offline eg) a payment on a flight. Although most payments these days are processed online. The type of card you get depends on Barclays assessment of your individual circumstances (even on joint accounts). The black Premier debit card is only available as an offline capable card, so what has probably happened is that your partner has not qualified for an offline card, therefore cannot have the black premier card.0

To me this is very weird. I was automatically upgraded years ago and got the new card without apply for anything (albeit on a solo account). However, I also knew someone at work that had a Premier card and again she simply received it as her joint account was upgraded (she worked part time and would not have qualified for income basis).0

Ain’t the normal blue debit card an offline card too? As I have used it on an flight before. So my understanding is she failed the credit check and affordability for the black card ! Even though she has the access to the account and the savings. I do think it is somewhat ridiculous.mab3000 said:There are 2 different types of cards that Barclays issue. 1 where the card always has to connect electronically to a server to check that a payment can be authorised, the other type is where additionally a card payment can be processed offline eg) a payment on a flight. they run a separate credit check for the card - surely they wouldn’t run a credit check and issue the card without her being asked/made aware .And if that’s true Barclays does not seem consistent with its customers0 -
Why would they credit check for a debit card when the account is already open?0

With the blue cards, it depends on what the card number starts with, if it’s 4658 it’s the electronic only card, if its 4659 then it’s the offline card.Paul66p said:
