Wowsers …that was a long and odd day …
Started okay with knocking a few chores and jobs over, attended the village fete. Got some cosmos I found at the fete in the ground and went from that to having a neighbour over for a cuppa - only the second time we’ve done that, getting dressed into a posh frock (well, relatively 😉) and going out to arrive at Mr KK’s employers’ venue for six thirty. There was much, much hanging around with food scheduled to start at 7pm finally starting at 8.30pm and going on until a meringue dessert at 10pm. (The veggie option was a chargrilled half cauliflower - I mean literally chargrilled on one of the barbecues, no herbs, no spices, no flavourings, nothing! By the time it got to me it was pretty well cold too. Why do peope do this to vegetarians? 😂🤷♀️ I raided the feta in the salad bowl that no one else seemed that interested in 😉 Apparently the omni option wasn’t much better - dry and cold beef 🤷♀️).Before dessert there was the awards element. Of course I only knew a couple of people and Mr KK’s boss is not a natural public speaker so there was much mumbling into microphones. They did include Mr KK for an ‘award’ but without mentioning how long he’d worked there … I think that’s because he’s self employed and they also sent him away for six months in the last recession (with one week’s notice). He got given a plastic covered lined A5 notebook monogrammed with his initials, a p@rker pen, a generic corporate message and a boxed bottle of champagne. Employees got given an extra days paid leave for every 10 years but of course he gets none … 🤷♀️ As Mr KK said, he’s glad he went, would have been offended not to be included but it hasn’t really changed his life! 😂😉It was a long and strange night with the group finance manger, sat opposite me, relentlessly talking about her work arrangements, childcare, her working career and previous commutes etc etc at me. We left at 10.30pm, got home at 11pm and collapsed into bed at 11.30pm after a cup of tea (I was very cold by the time I got home). Woke at 6.30am and my head is heavy and I didn’t even drink!! 🙄😂😂😂
It all happens again today with a family fun day at the same venue with the same people as well! Barbecue this time … Mr KK has suggested that I drive there independently so I can leave when I want. I think I will … 😂

That sounds as though effort was made, it just missed the mark. Hope today is better, at least food wise, and weather wise.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Is there a garden centre or other horticultural pleasure centre along the way to reward yourself with?
You could get Mr KK a lovely 'plant award' 🪴 for long service (to you) and you could host your own award ceremony with decent bbq at home.
They will remember you went, they won't remember how long you stayed - so wear something bright / colourful ( or a Turban a la Margot )
It is chucking it down this morning. Don't think it had rained for more than 10 minuteses in the last 6 weeks.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Ha, I love the idea of hosting your own award ceremony for Mr KK!1

Late, tired start.- Harvested the first lot of shallots that are ready and later used some in my mushroom nut bake along with thyme and parsley and had carrots from the garden alongside for dinner this evening. Mr KK very impressed by the carrots 😊👏❤️
- Wrangled Mr KK’s washing. Couldn’t get fully dry on the line as there kept being heavy showers.- Read a lot more of the book I bought at the fete yesterday 😊
- Attended Mr KK’s family fun day. Food wasn’t much better than last night 😂🤷♀️ Organiser very fed up … Finance manager was there again but very distracted by her children who she obviously adores, so it was a far less intense interaction 😉 Another child got stung by a wasp and I offered the anti histamine cream I had with me, which was gratefully accepted by his grandma. Mr KK took the Champ, whilst wearing his pith helmet (yes, really, all day 🙄😂) and later on, offered rides to littlies in the Champ (with attending parents). It was a chilled atmosphere but I was quite glad to leave after two hours.- More reading 😊
- Rang the parish councillor who doesn’t have email <sigh> to get his address so the new clerk could post the next agenda to him (previous ‘clerk’ was bezzy mates with this councillor and was also very anti technology so used to hand deliver the paperwork the councillor needed and never captured the address in the council’s records 🙄). With councillor’s permission, passed on both his address and phone number to both clerk and chair.- Made the mushroom and nut bake, harvested first carrots. Totally untouched by carrot fly 😊👏; planting in little groups between the garlic and allowing them to push themselves apart as they grew, as advised here, seemed to work really well 😊
Need to sort lunch and breakfast for tomorrow and clean up Chloe’s overnight tray and then I think I am done for the day 😊

I had to Google that one, had assumed you were taking the pith
Are shallots difficult to grow? One of my favourite things but shop bought can be very mixed depending on the time of year.0
