So sorry to hear about FIL   No words but we are here while you try to keep going.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

So sorry to hear this KK - sending you a virtual hug. Give yourself time to be in shock

well done on the decluttering so far it can prove cathartic if done bit by bit.

My parents have a house full of stuff as they had their loft emptied cos of roof insulation - some of it has gone but still things so much  they are hanging on to . Some with sentimental value but it freaks me out a bit
I’d hate for me to leave loads of clutter if I passed and have told my mum please don’t leave me with a house to empty - they luckily are healthy but ..
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I am wondering if FiL has anything left on his bucket list. Yes, he’s 90 and getting a bit doddery, but he’s not in pain (yet). We should consider it and ask him I think …ll

    KK
That is a good thought. Even if he hasn't are there things you and Mr KK can think of that he enjoys doing so you all have happy recent memories to remember him by?

FiL is coming home this evening. Mr KK is going round to see his mum and dad tomorrow (he’d also had the thought about bucket list / one last blast on a bike (probably trike) before …. and will ask about that tomorrow). He will also drop off his books into the accountant, having gone through all his eBay spends today for work which he has never done before … 😳🙄😂
Kitchen tap, which is dripping / dribbling every time we use a toilet or run a tap elsewhere, can be fixed with a new cartridge for £10 and some Plumbers time - phew! 😊
All the works in the lounge have been signed off by the building regs chap and he had some useful advice and ideas for how we might do our utility extension… 👏😊
Boiler, which has had a flashing error light since before Christmas, should be fixable with a new pressure valve for £40 plus the boilerman’s time … (phew!).
My car, which has a fault light and keeps randomly and unpredictably dropping into a kind of ‘limp mode’ where it has very limited power, is booked in for being looked at by the mechanics on Wednesday of next week … 🤞
New fibre broadband is still not working …. 🙄
Busy day in work. Did a pitch to my boss last thing about the nonsense role he wants to cuckoo into my team and he genuinely listened 🤞
