    Re the dining table, either get Mr KK to do it, or leave it. No one ever died of a messy dining room table.

    Have almost a boot’s worth of stuff to shift. I’m feeling slightly bad about the fact that I will just give it to a charity shop as I look at it and see value in it, but realistically I really don’t have the time or energy to organise selling and shipping it ….

    KK

    I think sometimes it is best to charity shop things rather than some items sit there for years as you try to sell them for pennies - its the  time v the money  vs energy (including every time you look at the pile of stuff) I have some things I just need to give to the CS and swear that I will buy less!
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
    No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

    I have had the hall decorated.
    On the coat stand there were something like 11 scarfs & I could only tell you when I last wore one!!

    @Baileys_Babe it’s not Mr KK’s stuff in the dining table, it’s mine! Largely because I can’t use my large bookcase in the the living room because of building works. I have straightened the muddle a bit! 😊

    @Merlin's_Beard - my dad is definitely a ‘character’ ….

    @LadyWithAPlan - thank you for that. You’re right, my time is more precious to me.

    @beanielou - oh yes ….. the hall coat-rack …. 😳😂

  • Glad the MSE site is helping you. I find it a huge source of support.

    Best of luck with the dining table. Be kind to you - the building works won't last forever - plenty of time to sort it when you can put things back where they are supposed to be.

    @Cheery_Daff, that will take some thought, but it’s along the lines of increased:
    confidence,
    self ownership,
    security (that back of the head buzzing worry about being in debt / having no savings isn’t gone but it’s way less now),
    support to be allowed to talk honestly about the unmentionable (money and finances) in a place that doesn’t judge,
    the generosity of posters to advise, share ideas and hard learnings, encourage etc.

    I think it has spilled across into my work and vice versa, as both in parallel in my latest role have been about taking an almighty mess (the job more than my finances thankfully!) and slowly, step by step, straightening it out, resourcing it, organising it, setting strategy(ies), mini projects and milestones along the way (I remember my first OP was tiny - less than £10, but felt so good).

    I suppose I feel less a leaf in the wind with no control and more like I own my life, if that makes sense? I’m doing things this year, increment by increment that I have never even considered before, such as aiming for reading 52 books in a year - I set myself that target honestly not knowing if it was even possible - I am well on track and I am enjoying doing it. My craft room has come out seeing people crafting and then wondering why am I living with this horrible mess in my-not-spare-room-dumping-ground etc.
