Where can I find a really large cardboard box?

I am going to sell a rather large pushchair/pram on ebay. I want to offer postage as I will get a lot more interest this way. However, I cannot find a box big enough to send it in as I threw the packaging away when we moved . The dimensions would be something like 50"x30"x40". I have been trying to find a box large enough but cannot find one on ebay or online. Does anyone know where I can either find a huge box or what else I could send/wrap it in that would be protective enough. It is comprised of 3 parts - bassinet, pushchair seat and chassis, weighing approx 15kgs altogether. Will send by courier.

Thanks!

  • when i bought a pram off ebay it came wrapped in a few binbags! and it was sent via royal mail, luckily it was all in one piece.
maybe you could just wrap it in loads of bubblewrap if you cant get a box big enough

you could try asking some supermarkets?, they usually have loads and they refold them to throw away! even if you get a few you could make a big box out of them-just make sure the pram inside is wrapped in bubble wrap or something similar

have you got a mothercare world store near you?

Ask them for a box. They have zillions every day that they throw away :)

Or any other store or on retail park could probably help.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
  • i bought a highchair from ebay recently so kind of a similar size
it was sent through royal mail and arrived in one piece
was basically the chair wrapped in bin bags with lots of smaller boxes that had been opened right up and wrapped round the chair secured with lots and lots of parcel tape (nightmare to get into but did the job), so smaller boxes can do the job you just need more of them lol
i find it's always worth asking in a shop if they'd mind you taking their empty boxes instead of them going to the tip and then 'improvise'
(plus you get the fuzzy feeling of recycling)
    Hope this helps
  • Try your local Toys R Us , Comets , Currys etc . If not try and get hold of a few smaller boxes and split them . Then cover the pushchair in bubble wrap , then wrap the cardboard round that then cover in black bin liners with plenty of parcel/duct tape . If you really can't get hold of cardboard at all then just plenty of bubble wrap and black bin liners and loads of tape will be ok . Best bet in fact is try your local 24 hour supermarket , ask when they are stacking the shelves if you can go through their cages with the card board in .

This may seem daft but try a local car dealership or bodyshop - where i work we often have things like bumpers delivered in massive boxes that i'm sure would do the trick.
  • supermarkets get big boxes with cearel boxes in they are massive most supermarkets would be happy to let you have one but you may need to ask and collect next day after the night shift have unpacked a box as they normally crush the boxes into bales

or add the cost to the listing and buy a new box from a local storage place as i did for a set of recarro seats
