Vodafone- 4th contract and no phone?

I have just breifly read through your post and came to my own conclusion.
you took out a contract and after the commitment period ended then any discount you had had then came to and end therefore making it look like the contract had been upgraded. This would need to be checked. Another thing that can increase the plan is RPI that happens every april which is the retail price index usually around 4.1 percent of your plan.
Vodafone, or even any network cannot upgrade without consent. What they can do though is something call price plan rationalisation. This is when you have not upgraded in so long that the plan you were on is no longer available so they have to match your plan as close as possible to what you already had.  I would check with them and it is not always their fault as you have chosen NOT to upgrade. Ask them if you were ever sent a end of contract text.

Many thanks for any input. I spoke to their complaints team today. 

They confirmed it was NOT a sim only contract for any point of the term. 

After some back & fourth they have increased their offer to £200 to credit my account. I have negotiated a new sim only deal with 5gig data per month with unlimited calls and texts. With the credit on my account I won’t have to pay them anything for over a year (as long as I don’t call premium numbers or go over my monthly data)  which for me, is a satisfactory result.
