I have read Martin's trick to get the £125 switch fee if I am not already a Nationwide customer. However, I am slightly confused. I have a Virgin account with two DD which I would normally use as the switching over account. However, I need to open a Nationwide current account first. Once I have done that, do I then switch my new Nationwide current account to the FlexDirect account, or do I switch my Virgin account with the two DD?

1. open a NWide Flex account
2. Once open, switch in the Virgin account
3. no need to upgrade to FlexPlus1 -
Or open a savings account, the following day open and switch the flex account1

Important point on step 2 is not to do that for at least 24 hours so the system sees you as an existing customerRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1

Will it definitely work if I open a savings account first? I don't really want to open a current account, then open another one to switch to, as it means two credit checks0

If it were me I would just open the Flex account.0
