Now I've still got around 1kg of peanuts to go. We bought them to feed the local wildlife but stopped when they trashed our garden that my partner had spent a lot of time on. Yes, I've made peanut butter and peanut sauces, and eaten them roasted with salt. But, there are ... a lot left to go.https://youtu.be/qImuKqP-NhI?si=Np1LqiglXrCu46ZT

@Frugalistamama, of course I remember you! I assumed you'd fallen into a packing box, been dumped in the garage at your new place and no one had unpacked you yet. I delighted to hear you've moved successfully.An empty freezer is amazing. I hope the rest of the move went all right.

🤣 We've had to do a bit of work to make it livable so we were in limbo for about 2 months, kind of camping! So glad to be finally in. Although my nesting and food hording instinct just kicked in now we are properly in and things are plugged in. I've lost my cooking mojo though which isn't good for using things up!! I've also got lots of red lentils, and I'm going to try this red lentil 'tofu' recipe:https://youtu.be/yIBCSf0e_6k
Previously I've made a quiche from gram flour, and this looks similar. And, it will consume red lentils3 -

If you don't have a cheesecloth/nutmilk bag you can use a clean old t-shirt or pillowcase - does the job fine 😉DNF: £708.92/£1000

I'll catch up on posts next week. Just a quick note: got my rolled venison haunch for xmas day last night. He also added a layer of beef fat to keep it from drying out. 2.3kg of loveliness! Typical MSE'r already salivating for all the leftover recipes afterwards!It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.3

@RHemmings, I've come to the conclusion that you have to add to your stores in order to eat them up. Frustrating but true. The challenge is eating your way through the stuff that doesn't naturally get eaten, while adding the minimum of 'slow turn over' foods to the larder. Possible alternatives to pasta sauce often include dairy, but vegan cream cheese or vegan pesto might work. Or could you stir some BBQ sauce into the bean and pasta mix? As to peanuts... I've no further ideas.
myself but there will be some left and I doubt DH will touch it... I might end up sending her home with some!
I intended to use vegan pesto with the pasta, but only worked out that I didn't have any when the pasta was already cooked. I considered a run to ASDA to buy some, but then went for the baked beans in an attempt to two birds with one stone. Maybe I should have bought the pesto. I added plenty of strongly flavoured vegan cheese on top, and I'll see how that works when I eat it. I'm just about to attempt to use up my arborio rice by making 3x meals worth of it now - for the freezer.
I'm going to end up with maybe 10 frozen meals in the freezer, which I have to eat before the 17th of December when I go overseas.3 -
Thank you for posting the lentil tofu recipe @RHemmings that will certainly come in useful when I get to that part of the cupboard!
Found some edamame beans lurking in the freezer so those went into my final stir fry last week just to get them out. Food shopping this week was very minimal on the "need" front so took the opportunity to buy some of the Christmas bits. Freezer is now very full with a large gammon joint and the turkey crown, plus some stuffing that was reduced and sausage meat.
Continuing on working my way through the freezer so lunch today is another freezer surprise - I think it's carrot and coriander soup so that will be nice on this cold grey day. I've managed to work out that there's some vegetable goulash in there too so that can be tomorrow's lunch sorted too.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20173 -
out: edamame beans in pods, opened jars of marinated olives and lupin beans, all for snacks. last night was a bag of periperi rice and chicken from L1dl for dinner. also defrosting is pork mince, 4pieces of steak, ratatouille, small bag roasted aubergine flesh. all to be turned into meals, possibly adding some couscous.in: mothing, but moved some veg and fish from the shed freezer to kitchen freezer.It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.2

Spent too much in the supermarket over the weekend, blew the budget already. spent £105! that's terrible. It may be fortuitous actually as the car has totally given up the ghost this weekend so I won't be going to the supermarket for a while. I need to save some money now to get the car fixed but I have a feeling it's going to be more than it's worth. What a weekend 🙄Grocery challenge:

I finished Saturday's soup for lunch and DH and I finished the batch of curry for dinner, and all that's come in is some buns (already history), a tin of apples and some ys cherry tomatoes.
I have carrots and coriander to use up... not looking enthusiastic about this as I'm not all that keen on carrot and coriander soup! Perhaps I can find some way to thicken it and add some pizzaz.
@Frugalistamama, it sounds like a stressful time. I hope the damage isn't too bad with the car. As for the shopping, just make sure you use it as well as possible, so you can tell yourself it was actually provident spending that will see you over a while.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living.
