Out today two salmon fish cakes from the freezer plus some broccoli as well from the freezer. Pudding was some tinned peach slices with a tablespoon of ice cream. I found a banana angel delight packet in the cupboard today so will whip that up tomorrow . I’ve a busy day decluttering tomorrow as I have a tip run to do on Saturday so lunch will be a ham sarnie as I dug some sliced boiled gammon from the freezer which I want to use some up in a sandwich and the rest will be diced up for an omelette for tea. I’ll use the angel delight for a pudding for both meals 🥰

I've used up a chickpea tikka with a baked potato - both from the freezer. I also tidied a pantry shelf and found a few bits lurking, but haven't used any up. Nothing new in.

I'm  today going to peel and poach some of the apples that are getting a bit wrinkly,I do them in a little water to cover and a decent dollop of honey to sweeten them and will use them in a crumble.

I have five tins of chickpeas to use up and need inspiration asI'm trying to use up as many of the tinned stuff that I can rather than buy anything else.

A handful of homegrown frozen raspberries for this morning's breakfast yoghurt.

DD1 (15) took a pack of dough squares to school for cooking class. It had been in my freezer for about 2 years!

2 pieces of frozen salmon, half a bag of frozen spinach.

Chickpeas work well instead of chicken - chickpea tikka is good, but my favourite is to add them to mayonnaise with a few sultanas and some mild curry powder: instant Coronation Chickpeas, nice with salad (or eaten with a spoon out of the the mixing bowl!) My friend adds a bit of mango chutney too.
wow, I need to try this, thank you @Cherryfudge

Good on baked potato, too. :)

I tried a new one last night, this chickpea curry. Relevant to this thread as I used up a bit of ginger, the rest of the cumin and quite a bit of garlic. It's definitely a keeper, and makes about four portions.

I drifted into tidying a kitchen shelf earlier and there are a few things to be used up - not all at once.

Four oood (outstandingly out of date! :D ) jellies: I've made one up with a tin of oood mandarins for tonight. I hope that's the last of the mandarins, so I'll find something else that goes with orange jelly.
Posh multi-coloured quinoa - I need to find a use for this.
More ood packet custard: I'm working my way down an ooood ('orribly outstandingly out of date) tin of custard powder by treating myself to bananas and custard, thanks to @London_1 so this will wait. The tin of custard powder, by the way, tastes fine and makes up all right.
    Half a jar of tahini.
A chicken curry sauce mix and some white rice - I usually use brown. I can use these up this week with chicken from the freezer.
4 sachets of eggwhite powder. I'm not going to ice the Christmas cake so perhaps I'll make Eton mess just because I can? :D Maybe at Christmas too? That might help with the backlog of blackberries and raspberries from the garden that we keep forgetting to use from the freezer.
A few lasagne sheets - ooood.

I think I'm doing a bit better at not buying too much food - thanks, costs of living crisis and feeling bad about things staying on my shelves - but obviously we have a turnover of mostly the same sort of things and I'm left with a backlog of things I bought as interesting possibilities. I do throw things out (honestly) if I feel they aren't fit, but these dried things last ages.

Another project for today is mincemeat cake as I always have a backlog of mincemeat and I saved a recipe I saw on here ages ago. I've resisted making it in summer but now might be a good time. Ditto for rice pud: if I plan a light main meal for one day this week, a nice baked pudding would be perfect afterwards.

  • Long time lurker on this thread but have realised that I need to make some space in our very small freezer ready to receive all the Christmas specific food.  So this week is going to be full of lots of surprises I think alongside trying to get a grip on what we have in our main food cupboard plus our makeshift pantry.

Lunches this week are going to be full of stir fries using up some spring greens from last week along side random veg.  I also found some chicken in the freezer so that's going to be the protein and then a mixture of noodles as have 3 packets open of various types (egg, rice and udon).  Will season with soy sauce, garlic and ginger and whatever asian style herbs and spices I have lurking in the cupboard.

Dinner tonight is a portion of fish pie that I also found in the freezer, with some broccoli on the side.
