Thanks @joedenise. It's just i tend not to have celery, neither I nor the guinea pigs are fans, so if i want to make a quick soup or something with whatever i got leftover, am always missing the celery. Think enough for a few portions to only keep for a couple of months is a good idea. Thanks!
DH likes celery but his aged teeth don't, whereas I don't like it raw but I do like it cooked in soups or casseroles.  I always have some in the freezer, just chop into pieces and bag up - no need to blanch - then you can add however much you want/need.  I try to get a head with the leaves still on too as they get chopped up finely and frozen in water, like giant ice cubes.  Again, just pop one or two in your soup.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
  • I did my monthly shop today and the four garlics are now pealed and frozen ready for home made soups etc. I used to find the last one would be unusable so freezing them solved the problem.
I also bought a big bag of frozen broccoli and cauliflower (can’t tell the difference if doing a cheese sauce) and frozen is so much cheaper. Also bought a bag of frozen onion rings (99p in Aldi). By the time I get to the third week I’ve eaten most of the fresh veg apart from carrots and onions and frozen keeps me going. I also froze a tray of mince and sausages for weeks 3 and 4. I also usually have meals from weeks 1 and 2 frozen too. Eating out of the freezer is the way to go.

Got shopping both yesterday and today so:

In: lots of chocolate (fairtrade on offer), bananas, ready meal for when I'm not organised for work, pasta in a mug and muesli bars (ditto), quiche for my lunches, tuna, leeks, plain flour, bottled water
Out: bottled water (only needed because I changed plans and didn't get a drink at my friend's), southern friend chicken, sour cream and chive sauce. Various other bits too but those are all that got finished.

Didn't make it to the butchers so picked up a pack of sausages from SM so they have gone into the freezer along with a couple of loaves of wholemeal bread.  DH picked up some hot cross buns so some of those will get frozen as well so he doesn't eat them all in one go!

I had a birthday yesterday so we had lunch out (smoked salmon sandwich for me, leek and potato soup for DH, which might inspire the destination for the leeks and some of the potatoes bought recently).

We had the family round for pizzas in the evening and DS2 kindly offered to buy and cook them all! We weren't sure what was included in the offer so we bought soft drinks, salad, grapes and garlic bread. A lovely evening was had by all but as DS2 provided just about every variety of pizza found in Mr T, an assortment of garlic breads, potato wedges, drinks and (more) grapes, we ended up feeding ourselves today, too.

Out: pizza, pizza and more pizza, green tea with lemon and one bottle of fizzy pop.

In and not yet eaten: 2 packs of garlic bread, lots of grapes, salad leaves, a few cherry tomatoes, 2 cartons of juice, blue cheese, a couple of slices of cake, icing sugar (finished the old one), three bottles of pop, birthday coffee beans in chocolate, birthday hot chocolate sachets, birthday coffee syrup, birthday fudge and birthday chocolate hot cross buns.
