Isolating due to PCR result

Options
Just returned from abroad. Hence had to do my day2 PCR test. He results came after 24 hours and so I had to self isolate till then... Missed 1 day of work though .

Is there any benefit or claim I can make for having toiss one day of work due to the above?

If you were required by your employer to travel abroad for work then you may be entitled to pay from your employer ( depending on your contract).

There is no entitlement to any government payment for going on holiday and /or the required period of quarantine when you return.

You also possibly could have paid for an on site PCR test with quicker turnaround times so that you got the results back quicker.

The alternative was not to go on holiday in the first place and then not to miss out on the work.

I'm assuming you knew you had to do the PCR test before you choose to go on holiday..
  • Thanks for all the replies. I guess I shouldn't have gone on the first place 😃... Nevermind, holiday was well worth it

    Thanks again to all.

Some harsh replies, given that the rules can (and did) change often. When I booked my December holiday there was no isolation required after return, by the time I flew back there was a need to isolate until the day 2 result.
I was considering changing from the Randox day 2 test (£43 already paid) to an on site 3 hour service (£129). In the end I decided to save my money. I took the randox test as soon as I got home, drove to the drop box, so it was deposited late morning. I had the result overnight, so was able to work the next day. I had made tentative arrangements that I may not be able to work a complete shift if I didn't get results in time.

He says he "just" returned, the rules have been in place for a fair few weeks.

Can I ask on this thread I don't want to start a new thread just to ask this.Do they only do one nostril swab on your PCR test along with the both tonsils (or where they were) swab now when you do it at a testing site?

I did one a few weeks ago. They swabbed four different places at the back of my throat and both nostrils, was quite surprised how thorough they were.
