New build house plans/drawings

We are currently in the process of buying a new build and need some drawings for our property as we’re planning to get some add ons in our kitchen however our developer will not give us copies of the house drawings/elevations plans which we need to help design our add ons. Is it normal of developers to not share?  I have tried to ask twice now & each time they’ve unfortunately said no to copies.

I Have contacted the company who produced the CAD drawings/elevations and they haven’t been able to provide copies at charge either as they said our developer holds copyright over these plans.

Is this common practice? How can I get Around this as I need the plans for designers who I’m going to commission  for the work. Seems abit unfair they won’t Release these to us as the buyer??

Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated. The floor plan available on the website isn’t enough fyi. We need More in-depth dimensions and measurements to discuss with our designer. Thank you!

It's not normal for buyers to ask for this sort of thing. Aren't the plans for the planning permission (probably available on the council's website) sufficient for your needs?

    It’s new build.
We aren’t making huge Changes structurally. We are making cosmetic changes and add ons to our kitchen so need dimensions/measurements of the existing kitchen space to speak with our designer to draw up plans for our new kitchen space we are going to be changing it too. Our kitchen designer need in-depth dimensions but our developer refuses To print us copies.

Even if you could get hold of the plan I wouldn't rely on it for accurate measurements. What ends up getting built is likely to be slightly different to the plans.

I remember we took pictures during one of the visits

Also you can ask for specifics via email and they will send it to you.

E.g Length of point A to B - that sort of thing
But the wouldn't give you the whole thing at once

Indeed. OP, do you really need all of this info now? It would be easier and safer to wait until you've moved in.

I would second going on your local council planning website for detailed plans.

We have recently purchased a new build and the sales office were more than happy to provide us with detailed kitchen plans and architectural drawings etc.

Yeh i do understand this. It’s just to get rough measurements for quotations. The design will then be cut to measure once we get in at home demo/meet the builders.

Wish ours was this cooperative! We’ve asked twice& they’ve said no.

When you say council - how can they assist? As it’s a new build? What plans will they be able to provide us with ??

Great question. We just need it for rough quotations based on the depth/measurements the kitchen is set to be.
It will help give us an indication on costs and allows us to reach out to several suppliers/ designers for better averages. The component won’t be put into order /cut until we give the green light after confirming it is as on paper.
