    3. I will be getting a taxi to Manchester Airport as I don't drive.

Manchester airport has its own mainline railway station, so unless you live in the back of beyond there is no need for a taxi there.

And, if you land after midnight, what would you suggest then?

Again, check public transport options at the appropriate time. National Express serves Manchester airport throughout the night. If no suitable public transport is available at the appropriate time then either reserve a taxi or sit in the lounge for a couple of hours.

Make sure you understand the airlines luggage rules, weights, dimensions etc of both hand luggage (which you take onto the plane yourself) and checked luggage (which you leave at check in). Note that some airlines especially budget ones are often very strict and will charge you loads if you exceed the limits.
Understand the hand luggage liquids rules, easily found with a google. Don't have anything in your pockets at security, either have a hand luggage bag or a coat with zip pockets which you can use for your pocket contents. Some people just put their phones, wallets, watch, keys etc direct into the tray at security but then they're more likely to get nicked or forgotten.
You have to walk through a shop after security. This often confuses people, but it's the airport's way of trying to sell you stuff. Once through, keep an eye on the screens for your flight and gate number, most airports don't do announcements any more.
Take something to suck on eg hard sweets or lollipop on the plane as the air pressure change after take-off or before landing can hurt some peoples' ears.
Read the COVID rules and entry requirements, and return to the UK requirements, here and KEEP RECHECKING them, they are almost certain to change several times before you go:
Plus rules at the destination eg face mask rules etc. They are far stricter abroad about face masks etc than they are here. Make sure you have the NHS app with proof of vaccination certificate downloaded. You can create this before you go, a pdf with a QR code that can be scanned, not been to Spain recently but lots of European countries require this to enter bars, restaurants etc.
Make sure you have contingency plans eg if you test positive and need to self isolate either on holiday or after your return, and that your travel insurance covers you.
Get a couple of fee free cards as above and use them, you'll probably find very little need for cash. Contactless works abroad. If you're asked to enter a PIN always tell them to charge you in Euros. See if friends/family have any spare Euros and buy them off them at the interbank rate, you'll almost certainly know someone who has spare euros. Take some GBP cash you can exchange there if you need more cash (rates in Spain are usually much better than here).

Hi, thanks for that but what do you mean by leave luggage (suitcase) at check in? does it not go on the plane where I sit? or does it go below the plane and I just take hand luggage with me when I sit on plane? Sorry if that is a stupid question, but I rather know, then get it wrong at airport.
  • Ignore my above question, I found the answer by Google, cheers anyway! I get it now.
