julicorn's journey 2 - Moving Up

Mr julicorn finally got the past rise he was asking for today, so that increases our maximum borrowing amount by £12k I think? Would be nice not to have to go right to the limit, but it's an expensive city and for the right house, it'd be worth it.
Our mortgage is looking to increase by about £1,000 a month. The nice thing about having always overpaid over the last few years (and having YNAB a additional evidence, haha) is that we know we can afford that fairly comfortably. There's still always a bit of a niggle around what exactly happens if/ when we have a child, given that I'm the main bread winner (a bread lottery sounds seriously tempting, not going to lie), but I'm sure other people make it work too.4 -
Ha ha, I'm loving the idea of the bread lottery 🤣🤣🤣!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!2 -

Speaking of culinary adventures: I had some mushroom and leek risotto left over from the night before, so I thought I'd experiment and make some basic arancini last night. My goodness, so easy and so delicious! I never enjoyed leftover risotto that much, but that is a game changer. I think I was probably inspired by watching the apprentice last week, so that's got to be a first4 -
We've got our first house viewing booked! Well, I say "booked", really I mean "pencilled in for Saturday next week on the condition that we get an offer on our flat before then", because that's how it works atm
It's quite an interesting one, smaller than we were looking for, a little mews house but still 3 bed and suuuuuuper central. The location is pretty excellent, but yeah, only 75sqm. Will be good to view that though, gives us an idea of what we can get somewhere that is a literal stones throw from the town centre (having said that, I can't throw very far, but I'm sure Mr julicorn could hit Churchill Square from there if he tried hard enough).
Just finished up work, and we're off to Center Parcs in an hour or so. It's all very exciting stuff! We'll go to Las Iguanas for birthday food and cocktails tonight, and will have to try and relax a little rather than just bounce about talking property all week
Have a good weekend everyone!4 -
Ooh, viewing sounds interesting! I'm a big fan of central, as long as it's not too noisy at night - and with your interior design skillz you could definitely get the most out of that 75sqm 😀
Enjoy your break, and I hope the open day goes well xMortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Just discovered your diary. How exciting about moving! We're hoping to do the same in a couple of years once the mortgage fix is over. When we bought this place it was the two of us, and now having us both working from home, my bunny living under the stairs(!) and a nearly 10 month old we just don't have enough space.
I hope your potential viewing is good. I used to live in Trafalgar Street many years ago pre meeting DH and really do miss Brighton. We got married there, and I think for that reason he has a soft spot for it and would maybe move there one day.
Finally bought a homeStarting mortgage £289,500 31.01.19 - Current outstanding £192,984.78/CENTER]Overpayments since 27.03.19: £52,341.433 -
Yup, I love Brighton too, I lived there for a long time.
Julicorn, have a lovely time at CenterParcs, and at Las Iguanas too, such fun!2023: the year I get to buy a car2 -

And I have to ask, did you get married at the Town Hall? We did, it was lovely (coming up to 8 years this year, absolutely wild!). And it doesn't get much more central than Trafalgar Street.1
