iWeb will be the cheapest platform for LS 60 at £80K+ You would have more choice of cost effective platforms if you used ETFs, but that would not be so simple. You would have two funds rather than one.

What is more cost effective than a platform fee of £0?GeoffTF said:iWeb will be the cheapest platform for LS 60 at £80K+ You would have more choice of cost effective platforms if you used ETFs, but that would not be so simple. You would have two funds rather than one.

Not paying £100 opening fee. Paying less or not paying at all for trades. iWeb could put its charges up. He would have more options with ETFs. I do not expect he wants the extra work though. He can always switch to ETFs later on, however, if the cheap options for open ended funds dry up.grumiofoundation said:

It's worth mentioning in this thread that iWeb currently have extremely long ISA transfer times with some on the forum reporting that their transfers have been going on for nearly a year now so for the sake of getting the £80k invested in the fund it might be better to go with Interactive Investor as their £120 pa is only 0.15% of the asset value (same as Vanguard Investor's percentage charge) however the II fixed charge wouldn't increase as the investment hopefully grows. We have seen very positive feedback on the II transfer times recently - their service seems much improved since the problems with the TD Waterhouse integration a few years ago. II often run cashback deals for new customers that roughly cover the first year's charges.
The OP could always start a transfer to iWeb after the money has been invested maybe waiting until their transfer times have improved.1 -
As I wrote above: "Transferring accounts into iWeb is currently a nightmare. Their T&Cs say that they take 3 weeks to log your request." That may be a bit strong. We hear from the people whose transfers went wrong. We may not hear from those whose transfers went well. HSDL may be getting to grips with their transfer problems. II currently seems to be getting the better press though. Hopefully, their new owners will not mess it up. I have recently been criticised here for saying that iWeb's service is not excellent, but there is nothing much wrong with it either if you just want to hold LS 60. Nonetheless, I also stand by saying that using ETFs gives you more options that are cost effective.Alexland said:It's worth mentioning in this thread that iWeb currently have extremely long ISA transfer times with some on the forum reporting that their transfers have been going on for nearly a year now so for the sake of getting the £80k invested in the fund it might be better to go with Interactive Investor as their £120 pa is only 0.15% of the asset value (same as Vanguard Investor's percentage charge) however the II fixed charge wouldn't increase as the investment hopefully grows.
