Ah!...No brainer then.... ;) Bought mine from there as I had £1000 voucher from an insurance company....No doubt it'll be passed over to another family member in a couple of years, like all the others and they are all still going... ;):)

Please don't take this amiss, but why does a 42" TV need upgrading? We use a 32" one, which seems plenty big enough, and we were just planning to keep using it until it breaks down. Am I missing out on anything important?

    This one, by the way.

    Are you my wife?   :D

We had a 43 inch Panasonic Plasma for ten years until I finally persuaded her that we should upgrade to the 55 inch TV pictured in my post above.

Her objections were the physical size of the TV. Now that we have gone to 55 inches she still does not like the physical size but she does appreciate the much larger picture and image quality.

A large screen HD TV is a far superior visual experience. I watch a lot of football and I find it much more enjoyable on a large screen. I also play a lot of Blu Ray operas and other music videos and again the image quality is out of this world compared to a smaller screen. I feel more immersed in the football or the opera. I can see so much more detail.

Another benefit is that a large screen TV usually has better sound quality as there is more space to accommodate decent speakers. I notice a big difference between my new LG and the old Panasonic. You can of course get a soundbar.

I play my opera and other music via my Hi-Fi but I use the LG speakers for everything else.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

We had, until recently, a 32" Panasonic LCD TV of similar vintage. I hate really large screens (well, I would have one if the disappeared when not in use, I guess), but eventually upsized to a LG 43". I must admit, programs/films are much more involving now (or rather, easier to get involved with).

The screen is regular LED back-lit LCD, and (after turning eco-mode off) and it has a really good picture, more than bright enough - any brighter gives me a headache.

Thanks for all the advice and info, very useful.

After a week of overthinking and research, we went for the QN94 in 50”. Was tempted by the LG OLED but didn’t want to go lower than 50”. Also, 50” is the max we wanted for the space it will live so the Samsung was a good choice.

Early impressions - it’s fantastic and a great upgrade on what we had and should last 6-10 years. So much of what I was worried about (viewing angles in particular) is irrelevant. On that point, I just don’t get it as it literally looks the same from all angles unless you’re so side on that you can’t see it anyway

All in all, a great choice for fairly limited requirements (no gaming etc).

Well done, you made the right choice for you. Watching Netflix, Prime and Disney in 4K takes it to another level... ;)
