I also started my tomatoes off in the propagator too but noticed that plants are already at the garden centre, I did comment to my husband I’d be there in a few weeks if the tomatoes or peppers won’t start!

Lots done this weekend. The children’s play area is all sorted now, just need to fill it. Blueberries, raspberries that I bought last week were planted along with some gifted canes from a friend who just took on a quarter plot allotment. We also planted out some strawberries, my shallot set, started off some leeks in loo roll tubes and started off some chitted potatoes outside to test the temp. I’ve loved being in the garden this weekend. It’s been such a beautiful start to spring

This weekend we planted our potatoes (all ten of them) and DH weeded the asparagus bed. I planted the sweet-peas and we netted them a bit. They were plugs I bought from Kings Seeds as I am so rubbish with sweet peas.

I am going for a second planting of tomatoes, chillies and bell peppers indoors. None of the Fuego chillies have germinated from the first sowing. Six bell peppers and five cayenne chillies are to be seen. I was probably a bit mean with how many I sowed as I want to give some to my friend a few doors down as she ordered a pallet of grow-bags to share with me.

Annoyingly, having been to the garden centre to buy Sungold FIH tomato (8 seeds for £3.49) I have found the packet I believed I bought from Kings (10 seeds £2.75) - in the wrong bag of seeds. So I need to start these today while the house is still warm, before I turn off the (electric) aga - very conscious of how expensive it is to run. Plenty of other tomatoes have germinated and almost ready to pot on from their sowing pots - they are getting a bit leggy but you can plant them deep and then roots come out of the buried stems, so not fretting.

I still hope to empty my greenhouse today but DH is at a funeral this morning (me last week, him this week!)

    Enjoy the good weather

I'm hoping to get my spuds in this weekend, thankfully I didn't take them down to the garden Saturday as it was a hard frost this morning.

Yep I brought mine back in again last night when I checked the temp. Hoping the new soft fruit bushes manage okay

I thought it was only the newly emerging growth that was susceptible to frost. Newly buried seed potatoes should be fine

Thanks SL, I hadn't looked into it properly and just assumed the worst! Looks like I'm spud planting the weekend 😃

Both last year and the year before we had frost after the growth came out. The first year was quite a lot above ground,  i literally shovelled as much soil as i could over it. Last year i collected grass cuttings and also got a bag of bark, was only slightly above ground. Both years survived no issue, just cut the bits that were exposed and died.
It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.

    Thanks @carinjo that's good insight

I've finally given up and thrown last year's pepper plants in the garden waste bin. They all looked dead, and I still have some seeds, so I gave up on them. My sister gave me a few seeds as well - peppers / chillies and tomatoes - so I've put some of them in seed trays. All the potatoes I dug up when clearing the patch last year seem to have started sprouting, so I'll plant some in the garden in the next few days once I've got rid of the weeds and checked it for cat visits. And I've got some glass for the cold frame, so I'll have to cut that to size and get it fitted to the lids.
