Why would 3 suddenly credit my bank account with £30 - almost 2 years after closing my account with them - after I changed to Tesco?
I was only paying them about £7 per month when my account was running

    Ask the provider?
  • Ask the provider?
They may then realise that they have made a mistake and want the money back?

Well I'm not sure what you think you're going to be told here but the only place who can tell you why they've slapped £30 in your account is the company that did it in the first place.

If it is/was a direct debit, then under the Direct Debit guarantee "If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when the organisation asks you to"

3 used to ask customers to contact them to claim any outstanding balance from a closed account which is a bit naughty to say the least. My daughter just received a small credit out of the blue for an account she closed a year ago so maybe they've got in trouble and started crediting previous customers with what they are owed?

This. I'm pretty sure three owe me smallish amounts on several accounts. I'm just in the process of closing a three account at which point, for the first time in five years I won't have any active three account so will stick in a request to get a final balance on all my recent accounts.
