Thanks for the explanation - that's obviously an issue if the cash is too much of a temptation. Didn’t want to read an run, I’m not aware of a card, perhaps a basic bank account but I have no experience of these.
don’t want too sound harsh, but I think you are approaching this the wrong way, rather than getting a card that prevents cash back, you need to deal with the issue. You appear to have taken the first step in admitting the issue, you now need to seek help. It’s never easy breaking an addiction but limiting isn’t usually good in the longer term regardless of the addiction, be it drink, drugs or betting.3 -
Not sure if this would help, but Monzo allows you to have 'pots' which you cannot unlock until the date chosen. Maybe transfer some money there?
Also, are you able to stop normal debit card spending ie so you cannot use your card at all at eg Tescos. Then up your daily cash withdrawal limit to cover groceries and pay Tesco by cash0 -
OP, if you REALLY cannot stop yourself from asking for / accepting cashback at the till, may be you should
- cut up your debit card
- get a weekly or monthly cash allowance from your partner, to spend as you like, no questions asked. If you want to blow the lot in an arcade or on horses, that would be fine, you should live with the consequences. No additional money for the bus, for petrol, for lunch, for an ice cream etc etc, and if you are pestering your partner for extra cash beyond reason, may be even no partner any more. You can't hide behind an addiction forever.
- You need to get rid of your addiction altogether. Contact Gamcare, and think long and hard about the impact of your addiction on your relationship..

For the record, I have sought help, been to counselling and rehab. The point is that 99/100 days I am fine. It’s the one day I’m not when it becomes a risk. This is the day that safeguards are important and that I’m trying to plan/safeguard against!
I can block retailers and limit cash withdrawals but it doesn’t seem that I can block cash back.1 -
Daliah, you never “get rid of” an addiction! It’s with you forever more. You just try to get through one day at a time and put safety measures in place!0

As I see it you’ve acknowledged that you have a major issue and whilst you are trying to combat it, removing temptation would help. It seems a good step forward to me but it’ll always be with you so I wish you well.I’m not expert on the subject but I believe that you can approach bookmakers shops and request that they exclude you. I think that it’s a bit hit and miss and not a complete solution but it’s probably worth you investigating that option if you haven’t already.
I only use my Monzo account when overseas but see that they offer notifications of spend. If that’s by text and you can put your partners number on it (a big if) then they would know when you’d spent money. Not perfect (and maybe not possible) but you couldn’t hide that £60 Tesco spend.0 -
I don't think you will find a bank that can block cashback transactions. A bank has no way of knowing if you are using a debit card in a shop for a purchase or for a cashback transaction.
You may find that your best bet is to switch to a bank savings account (some come with cards you can use at ATMs) rather then having a current account/debit card1 -
Why do you need to carry your debit card with you daily?
is there a way to work things so you don't need to carry it and so can't use it.1 -
If you have specific spending you need to make, I wonder if gift cards might help? Eg a Tesco card which is preloaded so you can buy the groceries, but not cash. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
