I have no partner, I live 200 miles from my parents.
I am going for a Xmas Eve carvery 200 miles away with an ex-colleague, we turned it into a "tradition" as neither of us had anybody, but this will be our 4th year and she's bringing ... her new partner who has already moved in with her.
That's my lot.
I have never been to a Xmas party. It's not just you. I think you're supposed to arrange them yourself. So, if you don't know anybody (or don't like the people you know, or the people you know have partners are are busy anyway), you're stuffed.
I see Xmas as a time when it's OK to do nothing. Most parties etc are really a media myth I think. Most people don't really have/go to them at all. Those that DO seem to loathe them (especially works' dos)
My parents don't even decorate their house for Xmas and Xmas dinner is just like a Sunday dinner but with more veggies.0 -
i reckon you and your brand new husband get dolled up, out for a meal and have your own xmas party, come home, put on the polar express and cuddle up in front of the xmas tree.... and who knows where the night will go haha!! thats my perfect christmas night in.
also having a "pamper day" with mum - having our nails done, up to the local garden centre to ooh and ahh over the lights and then to have high tea and scones nonetheless before finally watching a christmas film. if your family is in turmoil - then just do something like this with the siblings you do speak to!
i really really feel for people alone or who feel unhappy at xmas. i suppose we could have a MSE christmas party online!! I'll bring the chocolate gateaux

dont worry youre not the only one

Our work is donating to charity instead of christmas presents / christmas dos etc which is fine but why do each branch manager get to go to a fancy "meeting" in a hotel and everything paid for which happens to be around christmas
Also they will still get their bonus where as we get nothing
I dont mind about the xmas do though, I hate work dos.
Christmas this year will just involve visiting family etc. No fancy parties or anything like that for us

Just me and OH for christmas this year... Still have lots of pressies for everyone to organise etc but Christmas is just the 2 of us...
I am really looking forward to it actually... I like quiet Christmasses I think. Especially we don't have kids yet and with a little luck next year I'll be pregnant for christmas (going to start trying after our wedding in May...) so this will in a way be our last christmas alone together...
Just enjoy it OR if you really want company then why not offer to do a stint at a homeless shelter or something over christmas? True Christmas spirit

Reasons to be cheerful....
No worrying what you look like in your Christmas party frock
No standing round at 3am, freezing, try to get a cab
No partying with people you don't even like very much
No stressing about the turkey being cooked on time
No running round all Christmas day asking if anyone needs anything
:j
There is just me my hubby and 2 sons, our families are all miles away and we could go to them but we don't want to, it's much nicer to be at home, just us :xmassmile
Hope you and your hubby have a lovely cozy time xox"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0 -
Thank you for all the great replies

Well ive got two things planned at least now-
My niece will be three next week-so im going over with my hubby to watch her unwrap her pressies off us and have some birthday cake (yum!)
And i've now arranged to go out boxing day (we'll be having xmas day to ourselves-can relax and eat/drink till im stuffed lol) -hubby's moms for dinner (his sister will be there too so can see her aswell) and then off to my parents for tea and both my nans will be there
Saying that-i think that'll be just right, as others have said i havent got to worry about going to see loads of different people and finding a dress to wear for example!
keely.
ps-im hoping that our family will be bigger for next xmas
