I,d love to join but every time I try to get started my OH acts as if I,m trying to destroy his life's history. He can,t bear to part with stuff! I,m disabled now and can,t get out independently to do sneaky runs to the charity shop or council tip. Any hints on how I get round this?11

Hi everyone
Sorry i've been AWOL busy with RL.
I haven't managed to catch up on everyone's news, hope everyone is doing ok and hugs to anyone who needs one (or wants one). I do love the idea of people wearing something of their parents as a memory/comfort; my parents are still alive but i do have my dad's old watch. it's in a drawer so i should get it out and wear it
Mrs S_D - wow thank you for my medal!! I don't know how to add it as an emoji to my signature so i'll wear it invisibly with prideI have today delivered my parcel of books to the collection point, also dropped off a big bag of stuff at the CS, taken all my soft plastics to tosc0 recycling point along with some used ink cartridges!
I have added to my stuff as i bought a small pine bookcase off Fb, this is so i can organise the small bedroom a bit better

@Primrose would your DH be more receptive if you discussed what would happen to all of your possessions when you die? Do you have children who would be left to clear the home?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Hello, I decluttered myself and family to the English Riveria, a freeby holiday from family member who has covid. Very generous, braved the weather late Friday afternoon and headed down.
Keeping it cheap and brought all food /alcohol needed from home. Site is lovely, family orientated but fairly small. Might head to Brixham tomorrow or Monday.
I did declutter a large buggy (3 wheeler Off road style). Not used for years, advertised on a local freebie group and collected within 2 hours. On leave for half term so a lot more sorting and decluttering will take place.

Primrose - Welcome ! Does your OH only react like that when its his stuff? Would he take your stuff to the CS for you? If so perhaps you could just focus on your stuff to start with in the hope that he becomes inspired when he sees you doing so well.

I've been listening in but not posting for the last few weeks. Hugs and thanks to everyone sharing their experience of grief and support to others. I posted here over the last couple of years about visiting my dad who moved to a care home last Autumn after another fall and feeling unsafe. Sadly, he died last Sunday, but I feel so lucky that we knew a few days before and my brother and me and our children all spent time with him. So many different feelings which people have mentioned here. When my mum died 12 years ago I helped my dad but so different being responsible for arrangements and don't think I grieved for her properly.
I've just been back to his house and stayed longer due to Eunice, trying to find some personal things but mainly electronics (lots of it), books on every subject, CDs and DVDs in 1000s and some photos, many personal things of my mum's including diaries from 1943 nursing (unqualified) in the war in candle light with power cuts, fierce staff nurses, and letters to family over decades.
I have a list of decluttered things from my house over the past month will post at some point. I managed 1 bag to CS for my dad, and a large bag of his clothes to take to the refugee and homeless donation hub. Reminding myself that my dad isn't his stuff, and wondering if I can make a teddy or something out of a checked shirt! Lots of guilt that I should have/could have done more for him which is I think very common.
Gem-gem I can't remember if you've just started crocheting? Sounds very impressive either way. I've only just learnt how to do the second row! a lovely friend sent me needles, wool and a beginner book when I had Covid....
Mrs SD, a very big hug to you and your 14 year old self, and to everyone else struggling. I agree with February being a cruel month .x13 -
TC77 - sorry to hear about your Dad. Yes, you always feel like you should have done more, but you did what you were able and that is what is important. After 16 years, I still have some regrets but I realize that what happened is past (took some years of therapy though). Take it easy on yourself.
I've held onto my parents' war diaries to pass along to nieces and nephews. If they decide they don't want them, I can pass them along to the World War II Museum in New Orleans. I would think the Imperial War Museum and Eden Camp would be interested if anybody there has diaries to pass along. I've done research at both. I also have had diaries from relatives back in the 1800s I have been passing along to various museums. Otherwise, there are several museums here collecting diaries including current ones - which will soon be ancient history (that includes our diaries of the pandemic). One hundred years from now when another major pandemic hits that will make interesting reading while people are waiting out the next siege.11
