Evening chums 😊
Busy day here. Covid study woman turned up first, friend arrived while she was still here, then after a couple of hours other friends turned up while the first one was still here. Then I had to leave for band rehearsal while the second friends were still here 🙄😂
Still, we have had a cheerful day, and we are down to only 3 doses of medicine for Bessie.
Rehearsal was good, I've actually been practicing and felt much more confident which made the whole thing more enjoyable.
Had another couple of waves of anxiety though which are coming and going at the minute, and which I am NOT enjoying 🙄 not sure I'd describe them as panic attacks, but it's certainly like a wave of panic that washes over me 🙄 Going to try and keep a bit of a record - is this related to anything in particular (chicken meds...? 🙄) or is it just general overwork/stress? Or is it my age?! Whatever it is, it's unusual for me and I am NOT enjoying it 🙄
Not spent any money today though at least!

I'm not sure how old you are but I started getting those sort of anxiety/adrenaline rushes about 4 years ago when I was 43, turns out it was all to do with perimenopause...I cut caffeine completely which really helped and started on some supplements to help me through these next few tricky years. I'm now at the hot flushes and cry at a seconds notice stage, not quite sure which was worse!13

I do drink a fair bit of tea... although strangely enough it's started to make my stomach feel weird lately so I've been trying to cut down - decaff doesn't seem to help with that, I think it's the tannin as coffee seems fine 😂
Should probably wean myself off caffeine although I'm not relishing the thought! 😮
Sorry you're at the hot flushes and crying stage, that doesn't sound fun either! 🙄13 -
Evening chums 😊
Not had too bad a day today, although it took me a while to get going. Mr Cheery whisked me off to the cafe for an hour for a change of scene when I started to get wound up about 3 🙄
Spoke to the vet - Bessie isn't as improved as I would like after a week of antibiotics - so she's extended them for another week 😕 Sigh. Also provisionally booked for her to come out again next Wednesday, the earliest she could do, just in case. Very much hoping their local bird flu restrictions have been lifted by then and we can go there - a faff, but will save us quite a bit of dosh!
Anyway, yawn. No wave of panic today, just a slight background anxiety which I suppose is better 🙄8 -
Cheery, I'm glad that you haven't had any of the panic, although the background anxiety is unpleasant in itself. Sorry that Bessie needs to continue with the antibiotics for a while longer, I hope they do the trick. I must admit that the tablets are bigger than I imagined - although I had no idea that chickens could swallow frogs etc! It's not difficult!

Yes, they can swallow surprisingly large things - mice, voles etc 😮 I doubt any of our rescue ladies would attempt such a thing - occasionally we've seen one catch a vole and just run round with it held by the neck while all the others (and us) run after her 😮 But as far as I know they've never actually caught and eaten one - although who knows what they get up to when we're not looking?!
They're big because they're dog tablets 🙄 Very little is licenced specifically for use in chickens so they have to do their best with what they have... Fingers crossed indeed.7 -

Anxiety is awful - as are panic attacks. There are some good resources online about coping strategies which I personally found incredibly useful when I was really struggling back in 2015. One I found particularly helpful can be found at https://www.mcgill.ca/counselling/files/counselling/anxiety_moodjuice_self_help_guide.pdf - I've recommended that to others previously who have also found it really good. Above all though do be kind to yourself - do you need to take a bit more downtime just purely for relaxing, perhaps?
