I'm a cheeky moo I know but personally I'd add "...and we will of course be expecting a proportionate refund for the time and trouble in needing to find another contractor to complete the job." to that - they have no idea I presume that "doing it ourselves" doesn't simply mean sorting it out to get done, rather than the physical "doing" of it - so it might kick them into some form of action if they think that another contractor will find out about their shortcomings. (And if not they just might refund you something - you never know your luck!) Definitely fingers crossed they do turn up and do it though - that would just be SO much easier on all parties!
Hopefully the feeling a bit grotty is just a result of having had a lot on your plate plus being pulled and prodded about for the tooth - sending "feel better soon" vibes anyway!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I've already been quite clear we will literally be doing it ourselves 🙄😂 they were horrified at the prospect, and begged to be allowed to sort it out. I won't be demanding any money back, they'll just have to live with the knowledge that they've disappointed me. I imagine granite guy won't care, but the kitchen geezers will - they were lovely, and were great about sorting out the other stuff themselves.
There are all kinds of things I could (and possibly should) do, but at this point I have a very strong need for it to be Mr Cheery's responsibility, not mine. There's no chance of him entering negotiations, so once I abandon the phone calls, it's over to him to source epoxy and figure out how to do it.
As always there's a balance between what's morally right, what's practically possible, available mental energy, and relationship dynamics. This one has taken too much out of me personally already 🙄 Ridiculous, but there we are.11 -
Not ridiculous at all - I literally posted on someone elses diary a short time ago that sometimes the path of least resistance is the smoothest one to choose for our own sanity!
And yes - never underestimate the power of disappointment!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Also don't underestimate the effects of the extraction - I think it is a 'shock' to the body and the residual discomfort probably disturbed your sleep since too.

Cheery, those blimmin granite people are a real PITA! I completely understand why you just want to be finished with the whole business - just as long as you really won't continually look at it and wish you had persevered (cos that's what I tend to do).
I hope you have a lovely evening with your friend tomorrow.
We are off to that there London place tomorrow, we come back on Sunday. We are going to have dinner with son and his GF tomorrow (at The Ivy, no less. Not very MSE, I know!), see the Wildlife Photographer exhibition at the Natural History museum on Saturday and inspect son's new flat on Sunday. That'll wipe me out for much of next week! It's not difficult!

I know exactly what you mean about no longer having the energy to complain about things. We have a similar situation with a patio that isn't quite finished yet, but fully paid for. They will be back at some point they assure me!Save £20,000 in 2025. April 2k, May 3.5k12

Good luck earthgirl!
Ooh, enjoy your trip hb, what fun!
Thank you all for your support. They have indeed emailed to agree on the day, but said 'tell her I'll ring on the day to give an hour's notice'. Er, no, I want a specific time, not an hour's notice, that's no use to me because I'll have to keep the whole day free of meetings! Plonkers. Will reply and suggest they come to me first thing so they don't get sidetracked.
Been to counselling, and we've agreed to drop from weekly sessions to once a month for now, and reconsider after the next one. They're £45 a time and goodness me have they been worth it these past few months, but it will be nice to have that dosh back in the budget. I'll do a tally after uber(ish) frugal January and see if I can send most of it to savings.
Picked up another couple of bits for Christmas presents (for last Christmas, I'm not organised enough for next Christmas!!) Visiting a couple of family members tomorrow. Shouldn't be too long a day though.
Had the other car insurance letter, looks like £415 for the two, which is fine, it's down about £70 from last year. I was wondering why it had reduced too much, then remembered we only had one car before we moved here, so I had no No Claims Bonus. Got four years now so it's going down a bit!13 -
It doesn't stop, does it - they've already forgotten what you emailed them. Bah. And bah again
Have a lovely family visit! And oh! No Claims Bonus - since I've more or less committed to buying a car, my "bonus" is going to be zero, as I've never owned a car, yikes - hopefully my age will temper the harsh financial reality2023: the year I get to buy a car11 -
Fingers crossed KC! My first year (aged 38, and having been named driver for 13 years) bumped the insurance up from £200 to £700 - more than the second car cost to buy 😂😂😂 came down rather rapidly after that first year though, thank goodness.14
