I think what you have paid for your weekend is money well spent. It sounds as though it gave you a real lift and will be a time to be treasured. Even in these times, once the bills
are paid we prioritise our trips away over other treats and the time spent planning and remembering past trips gives us as much enjoyment as the trip itself.Loving the sound of a detailed chicken report too.5 -

So pleased you had a lovely time - and I'll agree with others that the over cost sounds very reasonable for what you got from it! (Although yes, that parking cost would have made me
as well!)

Funny old day today. A work conference!! Very exciting! First time at this type of face to face event since before covid 😱
Didn't get there til late because the trains didn't start til late, and they were taking away the tea!! Managed a tepid unappetising cup 🙄 I was quite grumpy at the start - In the past this has been a super well organised conference but this year felt sparse and rather disorganised. Tepid tea, hard to find the right rooms, no printed programmes, an app that didn't work properly. Really moving presentations though, almost ended up in tears a couple of times, and we met some lovely and interesting people.
Then on the way to collect me from the station Mr Cheery misjudged a corner and drove the car into a ditch 🙄 Fortunately both him and the car are unharmed, and our farmer neighbour managed to pull him out pretty quickly, but that phone call wasn't what I needed after a long day 🙄 Quite glad I was 12 miles away at the train station and couldn't make things worse by making 'helpful observations' (like "this is why I don't drive on this road at night"...)
Anyway, no harm done, thank goodness.
Nothing else financial to report. Back at the other event tomorrow - I've partly organised this one and apparently someone had to go home yesterday as it was too cold in the hotel 🙄 Had to ask them to put the heating on twice on Monday too so they're not endearing themselves to me at this point - it was colder than my house! 😂 Shame really - we have this week-long event twice a year and we were hoping we'd found our new venue but perhaps not!
Oh well....7 -
Sorry to hear you sounding down. Glad to hear Mr Cherry and the car are okay, perhaps in the future Mr Cheery will choose a different route 😉
If you are back at the venue today it might be worth as an organiser asking to talk with somebody senior about the issues you have been having and drop in that you are hoping this could be the long-term regular venue for the conference but if the problems continue that will not be the case. Whether you choose to give them your business next time you can decide at a later date but hopefully it would mean this conference would continue without further incidents.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I think a lot of businesses are trying to help make ends met by cutting back on heating. I was in Costa on Sunday for a spot of lunch and if they had the heating on it was very low indeed. Was not cosy at all and most people kept their jackets on. I know times are hard, but it also seems to be somewhat of a false economy - I won't be going back to Costa for a treat as I wasn't comfortable, and you you won't be booking the hotel again for the same reason.Live the good life where you have been planted.

We had similar at the weekend - turned up absolutely drenched to our hotel room and the heating wasn't on, so we ended up bringing loads of damp stuff back home with us - not ideal at all. The heating did come on in the evening, but we had no control over it. As you say, @Elisheba, it's not a sensible business approach, but then again businesses are suffering even more with fuel costs... I think there will be a lot of hospitality closures this winter, sadly.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Yes I did wonder if they were doing that - or at least leaving it off til people complained. I have to say it's been toasty today!! We've noticed a change in catering too - not been here before, but there's a definite lowering in the level of lunch available at various places for broadly the same budget as even the summer of this year.
Hey ho. We should be grateful to have work events at all, I suppose!!8
