Yawn. Bookshelf is empty (but not yet dismantled). Unpainted bits of wall have had a first coat. I've realised that I DID do two coats before, it's just that the previous paint is cream silk paint, and I'm painting blue matt paint, so there's the odd bit that you can still see through.
One wall done now, and I'm just going to keep painting til Mr Cheery's dismantled the bookcase, at which point we'll have to bring the carpet in so I can see where the missing bits are, and whether I'll need to move/add any grippers.
What a palaver!
Still hopeful that all underlay and painting can get done today though 😁
I'd forgotten I'm here on my own tomorrow - probably no bad thing as there won't be anyone to hear my curses 😂😂 I'll be able to get the desk back in and set up, but not convinced I'll get the sofa back in without Mr Cheery (although I am extremely stubborn when it comes to such things, so we'll see...) 😂😂9 -
Just think how lovely and cosy the office will be when you're done Cheery! I have to admit that when I carpeted my bedroom myself (with wool underlay and a cut down oriental carpet) I didn't bother with gripper roads. I've sealed round the skirting with silicone to stop the creepy crawlies, and while the carpet creeps a little, it isn't enough to bother me. However, it's probably worth doing it properly, particularly on tiles!5

Another here for your "poor old bookcase" to be refitted in your soon to be craft room 😃😄😀😊

Bookcase is dismantled, and of course I hadn't painted behind that either, so that's basically the whole wall that needs doing 🙄 Gripper rods removed from under bookcase - I've cleaned the floor ready to lay new ones next to the wall. Glue wasn't quite cured, so with these new ones going it now, the carpet may not be going down tomorrow, sadly 🙄 Most annoying, but no point even trying until the glue is dry, else stretching the carpet will just rip the rods up.
Yawn.
Still on track for underlay and painting being done today though, and if I can't get the carpet fitted tomorrow, I'll spend the day in the kitchen, finishing the ceiling and painting the walls.
In the office on Monday, but could theoretically do carpet Monday night, or even take Tuesday morning off to do it and get set back up again.
Not quite the weekend job I anticipated, but then it has rather flowed over its boundaries 🙄😂😂7 -
Pop your dehumidifier in over night to help the glue go off!2

Morning chums 😊
Good idea on the dehumidifier, although I had paint drying too and didn't want that to go too quickly, always a balance!
Sun is shining this morning. Mr Cheery is going to visit his dad, and I need a list 😁 In fact two lists, depending on whether I'm able to fit the carpet)
LIST A
* fit carpet! (If the gripper rods are stuck enough)
* 2nd coat of paint on big wall
* 3rd coat everywhere
* desk back in and set up
* anything else I can drag on my own back in and set up
LIST B (for if I can't do the carpet)
* 2nd coat of paint
* 3rd coat
* final coat on last bits of kitchen ceiling
* seal remaining ceiling board
* wash plaster off joists
* couple of hours scything!
* blog post
* reply to 2 neglected emails and a neglected text
* apple day at a community farm
Either list is fine, both will make good progress, and at least the second gets me outside for a bit!
Hope you're all having a good one too 😊7 -
I’m so impressed with how much you get done!4

I am pretty determined today, and making a (possibly unwise) attempt on the carpet. It's rather wrinkly 🙄 It's certainly going to be flatter than it is now, but, unsurprisingly, I don't think it'll look like a new carpet fitted by a professional 🙄😂😂
(But then it also won't cost as much as a new carpet fitted by a professional... and quite frankly I'd feel ripped off it a professional couldn't do a better job than a first timer 😂)
Henry Hoover is doing a good job of helping me stretch it though!7 -
Yawn.
Two hours in, and I've done two sides. Quite bored of kneeling on the floor and taking an increasing number of unproductive breaks 🙄😂
Stupid carpet has been folded, and I think will never be completely flat as I don't have a professional power stretcher (and can't hire one locally - and certainly won't be buying one).
Still, my aim here was WARMTH, not perfection, so I will plough on. The giant rug I had down before will be going back down.
I think I'm going to set myself a target of 3.30 - at that point I'm going to stop, shut the chickens in, and take myself and my book off to the cafe for a well deserved piece of cake 😁😁😂😂
By that point I want the carpet as well fitted as it's going to get, and hoovered, and ready to start sticking stuff in when I get back.
Hopefully I'll have a new bout of enthusiasm at that point!
Right, 2 hours, starting NOW!8 -
Do you have a steamer cheery? That might help get the folds out of the carpet. It might also be worth leaving it to relax for a bit before you finish it.3
