Mr Cheery senior is lucky to have you. Pizza, cake and fall protection! Are you enjoying having Cheery Dog back for a visit?4
-
We're all fine, don't worry! Mr Cheery is under appropriate medical supervision anyway, and there's nowt wrong with me 😊
Tired though, and very ready for spending some time on my own 😮 lots of coordination and logistics today re walks, car trips etc, but we are all back to the house now, Mr Cheery is making a curry, and I've sneaked into the living room for 5 minutes for a tiny bit of peace and quiet...
Apparently we used over 10 kwh of electricity yesterday 😱 Not surprising, we had the oven on for probably about 4 hours in total, doing a succession of cakes, garlic bread, and six different home made pizzas through the evening.
Wonder if I can sneak in a 10 minute nap without anyone noticing?!9 -
Goodness Cheery I do hope you did get that nap, after being a safety net for a whole other human I rather think it’d be well earned! Glad everyone is OK and that things are going well aside from the slightly fraught thing of having lots of people about - I can definitely identify with that!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Flipping heck Cheery, what a start to his stay. Glad you’re both ok. Caring for declining parents is a tough gig for everyone. I hope Cheery dog is behaving himself 🙈
You’ve got me fancying pizza which isn’t ideal at 9.30 am 😂
I hope the rest of your weekend is calm and uneventful xOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.

Thank you both 😊😊
I didn't actually snooze, but I did have a lie down for a bit away from the clamouring hoards so that was something 😂
It's actually been ok, considering there have been seven of them (aged from 5 to 85), and two dogs, here. Some in a hotel, some in a camper van in the garden, and one (plus a dog) in the house, but they were all with us all day and evening yesterday. Lit a fire outside last night and made popcorn which was cheery. Had to keep the two dogs separate (one male, one female, neither neutered, both a bit growly), and on leads as we have no garden fence, and of course the chickens have been shut away all weekend 🙄 Maybe we should have let the chickens out and locked the dogs in the two separate halves of the chicken run 😂
Anyway, Mr Cheery Snr is happily ensconced in front of a rerun of last night's rugby. The campervanners (including the 2 kids and a dog) left about 9 last night, and the other 2 aren't here from their hotel yet, so I'm having a brief moment of peace 😂 They're only coming back to collect Mr Cheery Snr, so while they'll stay for a cuppa, I don't think they'll stay for lunch now the kids have gone.
Another day of heavy (for us) electric use - 9.8kwh yesterday. And we've put the heating on this morning too 😱 12 degrees in the kitchen though, doesn't seem fair to inflict on visitors 😂5 -
You managed really well! Nice to have a bit of peace and quiet in the morning, and I'm glad all of yesterday worked so well - growly dogs were coped with admirably2023: the year I get to buy a car3

Not that impressive Cheery - I am really struggling with the pinyin characters - reminds me of trying to learn Japanese!!
Still, it breaks up the German a bit.
Sorry to hear that you had to be a 'stunt mat' for Mr Cheery senior - that must have shaken up both of you quite a lot. I think just being in a new / unfamiliar environment can be quite discombobulating. We visited my uncle in London yesterday who has Parkinsons - he was quite alert when we first got there but when we got back from having lunch out he was very tired and almost fell over the bag we had brought with us (with apples from our garden and honey from my dad) that he had managed to avoid all morning ...,.
Hope the rest of the visit passes off well

Thanks both 😊
Well, they have all gone. Chickens have been let out, I am eating leftover curry and picking at the remaining bits of cake (managed to send most of it away with the visitors).
The guy I asked to look at the render on the side of the house texted to say he could come at 1 to have a look and quote, so once he's been I'll either be going to bed, or curling up on the sofa with a blanket and a film.
Heating is back off 😂😂 And I think I can hear a mouse scratting around somewhere so I'll retrieve the traps from the garage later.
Five days of September left 😱 and I'm still £90 odd down on the Happy Wheel 🙄 Not remotely impressed about that! Not sure what I'll do - take it back out of the £400 I made last month?! Let's hope it turns round before then. I've got about £15 in Prolific which was meant to go to the mortgage, but I might see about that. Still, at least I did have the pay rise this month so that will more than cover the loss (I was looking forward to that being *extra*though 🙄😂)
Anyway, will think about all that properly when I'm not so worn out. Got a raging sore throat so I hope not the start of a cold 🙄4 -
Right, Mr Geezer turned up on time, so brownie points for him. Not a massive job, and we won't need a new lintel. And he'll be able to replace the missing clip on the guttering at the other end of the house too which is good. Going to send us a broken down quote - he was totting up as he went along and got to about £550, but then said various other things after that, so I'm anticipating somewhere between £700 and £1000.
Not great, but that will include replacing the rotting fascia boards (they're the only wooden ones we have) with plastic ones the farmer gave us, and will mean there's no water getting into the house. And this has to be done before we replace that window, which is so misted up you can't see out of it.
Anyway, he may not be able to do it until April anyway (!) So plenty of time to save for it 🙄😂
And now the rest of the weekend is my own 😁😁😁6 -
