I seem to be the only sensible one of my siblings sometimes and that is saying something!
Sounds like you've had quite a day Cheery, I hope you get some rest!4 -
So sorry to hear about your friends Cheery. How awful for you and Mr C.
Your day did sound trying, days like that just suck the energy out of you. I hope today is better.
Both my parents got dementia, although it was much later in life. The one consolation was they’d retired early and had a long and happy retirement. It’s one of the things that spurs me on.
As a family we had devastating health news more than once last year . Full recoveries made and long may that continue but it certainly makes you reassess your priorities.Wishing you and Mr C a happy and relaxing Friday (once you’ve found those freezer bags 😂😂) xOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!4 -
Thank you all for your kind words, and for sharing your own personal stories xxx I do try not to dwell or project disaster into the future, but occasionally circumstances do encourage it. I also try not to think about the fact that, not only is Mr Cheery 60, but my parents are only 63 😱 and while this is usually a good thing, it may well mean they all end up old and infirm at the same time 😱 Parents have been divorced for nearly 40 years so they won't be relying on each other either 😂
Anyway, hopefully we won't have to think of any of that for a good long while yet...
So, today. I had a good long sleep, thank goodness. Washing is on the line, I've strimmed the garden, we've put the bed together for Mr Cheery's dad, I've put on some pizza dough, and now I'm just sat down for a cuppa while I plan my next move.
Having quite a lot of cramping pain today with this coil 🙄 Well, I say today, it's been on and off since I got it last week, and it's apparently normal for it to last 3 months 🙄 My others have all settled down more quickly, but they were all copper ones, and apparently a little bit smaller. I suspect I've been overdoing it a bit today with the strimming and lugging the bed around 🙄
Other things to report. On the energy monitoring front...
* it costs 3p to dry my hair for 5 minutes 😂
* The 15 minute washing machine cycle costs 4p - a veritable bargain
* Henry Hoover costs 4.5p for 15 minutes
We were out 7am-8pm yesterday, so only used 2.8kwh for the day. The day before though was a bit weird. I was at work all day, Mr Cheery was here but sorting out, cupboards, going to the tip etc, and somehow we used 8.4kwh!! We've not used more than 6.7 in a day before (since I started properly monitoring this month) so goodness knows how we managed that. That's £2.34 worth at current prices (without the standing charge). I have no idea. The day before was only 4, so there's a chance I read the meter wrong at that point. I'm only reading to one decimal place as well, so there may be a small effect there, but not much.
Oh, Happy Wheel. Made £35 yesterday, but sadly all that did was reduce my deficit - I'm still standing at minus £60 for September. Most vexing!
Right, next on the cards today.
* washing up
* get the oven on and roll and cook a few pizza bases
* make a cake
* maybe make some scones
* take clothes out of the bathroom upstairs
* clean the bathroom
Then we'll see where Mr Cheery's up to.
Painkillers first though.5 -
Cheery - I remember having a conversation with a nurse about the box my coil came in (while waiting to go into theatre), and suggesting that they don't show it to patients. My initial reaction was 'no way will that fit'
but it turns out the box is a lot bigger than the coil is...
Hope you feel better soon.3 -
Ha, yes I can imagine that! 😮 I've seen an actual coil itself - there's not much size difference between them all but sometimes the difference does make a difference, especially if you've never had kids 🙄
Kitchen cleaned, cakes in the oven, plenty of pizza dough made, one pizza base in the oven, but sadly I forgot to leave the pizza stone in there to warm up so I can't now put that into the hot oven 🙄 Will cook a couple now to be prepared, and then precook the others later while the main pizzas are being cooked I think.
Slight change of plan in relation to who's arriving when 🙄But we should still have another hour or so before the first lot arrive...3 -
New coils always take time to settle in - but ouch I am feeling your pain/discomfort.
Need to change mine and not looking forward to it
I have ordered the same elec monitor as you as figure my parents can then use. I am looking forward to plugging all in and testing it
My main fridge/freezer plug is hard to get too so will need to move it to get the plug in which I dont think is safe? Though maybe a few inches will not make much difference.
It is scary as you look ahead to older loved ones and worry about their health. Keep up with the crosswords)
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I’ve just added Mandarin to my Duolingo to keep my grey matter going, but I think trying to take in learning to read the characters as well as the pronunciations etc …. Is making my grey matter twitch rather!! 😂😂

Ooh, attempting mandarin is very impressive KajiKita!
LadyWithAPlan I'm sure you'll be fine to move the fridge a bit (don't put your back out though!)
Eventful day here. Took 2 people to get Mr Cheery's dad out of the back of the three door car after he somehow managed to slide into the footwell while trying to shuffle out 🙄
Then later, he missed the step in the kitchen and went flying - fortunately I was crouched down holding onto the dog, so he landed mostly on me, rather than the hard floor 🙄 Quite bashed his knee though, and it took ages to get him back up again. Wasn't exactly comfortable for me but I'm very glad I was there else it might have been an awful lot worse - I suspect he would have smacked his head on the table on the way down if he'd not landed on me (it was quite a shock though 😮😂)
Anyway, lots of pizzas were had, and lots of cake, and everyone except me and Mr Cheery was in bed by 10 🙄😂
Pancakes for breakfast tomorrow. Will probably need to get up about 5 as there'll be so many to make 😂6 -
cheery maybe best to get both of you checked out, does he have these "falls" a lot?5
-
Good grief, Cheery, that sounds ... problematic. This is at the start of the big celebration of Mr Cheery's family, yes? Please take lots of care of yourself.2023: the year I get to buy a car3
