Changed our minds and decided on a vet trip for Bonny this afternoon 😕 She's looking uncomfortable today, not just slow, and I hate to think of them in pain.
They may be able to do something, but we might also have to make the hard decision to let her go 😕 We'll see.
So not exactly money saving, although I'll try and get them to do the prescription for implants that I can buy off the Internet either way so we've got one for Bessie or the others if/when the time comes.
Best get some work done in the meantime I suppose 🙄4 -
On the way home, having made the hardest decision to let Bonny go 😕
It actually wasn't that hard - she'd lost a third of her body weight in the last 4 weeks, and the vet could feel a tumour, and she was showing signs of neurological issues.
Still hard though, as despite her issues she was still enthusiastically eating sultanas out of my hand in her last few minutes. 😕
So all very sad. I did remember to get the prescription for the implants though so that'll save a bit of money eventually I suppose, not that that's much consolation now!8 -
Oh Cheery, I am so sorry to hear that, but you made the right, hard but kind decision.
Sending hugs and I'm glad Bonny got to have a sultana-y send off.

So sorry to hear this, Cheery, but I'm sure it's the right decision - although she was chomping on the sultanas, that weight loss, those neurological issues, the tumour, she sounds like her health was about to collapse
with no hope for recovery. Letting her go and cutting that process short is the kindest thing, I'm absolutely sure it is. You know that yourself, of course, but you and Mr Cheery are the ones who've had to go through with the decision, and that's hard, even when you know it's for the best.
Be kind to yourselves tonight.2023: the year I get to buy a car6 -
So sorry to hear that Cheery. You know you have done the best by her but still tough on you and Mr Cheery xxx2

So sorry to hear about poor Bonny. You really did the best for her, not only recognising that she was uncomfortable, but also being there for her at the end and making her last memories happy ones.3

So sorry to hear about Bonny, but it sounds like it was definitely the right decision. Thinking of you all (including her feathery friends, who must be so confused) xxMortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thank you all for your kind words xxx Yes it was right, but as you say, it's still a hard deciding at what point to end a life. I know the end was coming, but could she have had an extra day in the sunshine?
Anyway, it's done now, and she's buried under the fruit trees with some of her favourite treats.
We've had an odd evening traipsing round the countryside looking for somewhere to eat (basically somewhere to be other than our own house). The place we were aiming for was closing early, couple of other places were full, another couple completely empty (always disconcerting, and not really what we were looking for tonight). We ended up in W3thersp0ons which turned out to be just what we needed - comfy chair, no music, a small pizza, and Mr Cheery had an all day veggie breakfast at 9.30pm 😂
Beanie, you asked about scything - it's pretty much all me. Mr Cheery has an assortment of physical issues that I don't really talk about here, but he's not up to scything (although actually he was never much of a one for gardening activities anyway!) He did come out and have a go the other day - I filmed a 30 second video as evidence, but those 30 seconds are literally the only scything he's done this year.
I've got a friend coming to stay in a couple of weeks who had a decent go last year and is planning to do the same this year. I'll be working for a bit of the time he's here so going to set him off and hopefully he'll keep going for a few hours! Hoping to have got a decent chunk more done before he arrives though.2
